ICE Install - how much for...

Recommended Posts

Got a new kenwood head unit, bluetooth module and ipod module to fit. Also have got a new aerial (base, cable... the lot) Anyone know how much I should be paying to have it all fitted? I would do it myself but I have no driveway/garage at the mo and electrics aren't my thing anyway..

To get it installed I reckon anwhere between £100 to £150. The stereo will be straight forward if the harness is alrady there and none of the existing wires have been chopped! The ipod unit can be linked up through the back of the glovebox to the headunit. Have a go yourself - just get an electrical tester and off you go - wait till a dry sunday and do it ont he road.

Cheers for the encouragement! Yeh the harness is fine so I might well have a go myself. TBH the only thing which is worrying me is the aerial replacement. I have read a few threads here but no-one goes into the specifics about replacing an aerial in its entirety. So, I have 2 questions:

1. Has anyone gone about installing a USB cable/Ipod/Bluetooth in their glovebox (and how did it work out)?? Specifically the Kenwood variety...

2. Has anyone gone about installing a replacement aerial inc. the cable?

Any advice or even some mild ridicule will be appreciated!

1. If you got all the gear (cables etc) to connect your ipod to the stereo, then just drill a small hole in the back of your glove box and feed the cable through (hope your arms are skinny enough to get through the stereo hole) and connect it up.

2. I'm guessing the arial will need the headlining coming down (if it's the roof mounted one) to get to it properly and then it will probably feed along the side of the car up to the back of the stereo. Remove the front passenger seat to get better access.

Thanks Kalv,

I think I can take the glovebox out complete (mine is airbag model) to get better access to the rear of the head unit. The aerial cable (I assumed) runs down the A pillar - why would I take the passenger seat out?
