Richard_Lloyd 0
While racing a porsche boxster, the other day my car splutterd at 110mph so i backed off and coasted all the way home. Started the car up the next day and theres a knocking noise. Been told it could b a big end or the tensioner has gone on it. Anyone else have any ideas as to what it is? Bigjobbo 0
You wont know what it is until it's stripped down. Check your tensioner first obviously as it's the easy option. If not drop the oil and sump and see if you got any damage or remains in the sump. Really not cheap to do bottom end work unless you do it yourself, maybe wise to price up a second hand lump. hope this helps.
vr6newcomer 1
cld me a multitude of things mate, get it on vagcom. a lot of work u can do ureself, obviously depends on your ability/confidence, if u cant pin point it, a lot of folk on here swear by the phirm or stealth, depending on which part of the country your in. im taking my car on the rolling road next weakend, after which i will do my rocker cover gasket, but its good to give u an actual figure as to what the car is performing like, ofcourse as long as it still driveable. purple highline monster 0
if its knocking loudly dont drive it period! it could be big end shells, cams, chains, even a burnt/damaged a piston, the more you run the engine the more damage you could do, get it trailred to a decent garage and get it checked out! as for putting it on a rolling road to find out what power it is first???? well i wont say anything about that.... IbiVR 0
What was your oil level/condition like? From the way it started knocking, sounds like you've spun a big end bearing, most likely on 5 or 6.Tom.
