is the general feeling amongst people that awesome are expensive? i have thought this as a regular, more so recently when all i seem to do is get my car fixed there rather than buying stuff through choice! 45 quid an hour on my old vr, am i mad!!! yes but i love my vr.

I tend to get the feeling Awesome are expensive but not by much!

Found a kit from bigboystoys(G-Max)for £219 which seems to be the going price, cant wait to get it done, should transform the boat :)

Enyone know a good place to get the shocks/springs fitted, im located in essex & dont mind traveling to get a good job done?

Awesome are expensive, and i wouldnt buy dust caps from "bigboystoys" those choppers should have stuck to reproduced aircooled tin shite! nothing in stock and if you order it takes months of hounding them then they say "we cant get it" or "its come in and its the wrong one" tbh i wouldnt entertain a sub standard suspension set up either, lets face it another 150-200 quid and you get an FK kit or simmilar, your tyres and suspension and brakes are the only things that keep you on the road!!! why do a cheap job twice? instead of one dearer one!

I have to disagree with you about G-Max suspension PHM. IMHO they are far from sub-standard bearing in mind that (boaty) springs and shocks were standard to the VR. I thought long and hard about what set-up to go for and did a lot of research before I went for G-Max. For me it came down to two things. 1. What my plans were for the car and 2. how much I wanted to spend. I had no intention (and still don't) of turning my VR into a track car so coilovers were not a necessity. I basically wanted to go lower and keep a level of comfort. I was on a bit of a budget and that extra £150 - £200 was put to use elsewhere on the car. I know that with (coilover) adjustable height and damping you have a lot more scope for modding. For me the height is perfect and the ride is considerably firmer than stock but not too harsh (no eyeballs shaking). 8-|

Having fitted the suspension myself I can say that everything was as it should have been. No bits missing or brackets welded on in the wrong place. They also come with a 3 year guarantee. :o I bought mine from G-Max themselves which is something I would recommend doing as they are very helpful and in the unlikely event of any problems, you can speak to them directly rather than going via an outlet. I would agree that if you have plans for your VR then definately go the coilover route but if you can't splash the cash and you just want to uprate from standard then you could probably do a lot worse than G-Max.

Sorry for the rant guys :$

agree on some points but couldnt bare to run g max or zimmerman or any of the other "cheaper" brands on my cars, i know some people have a tight budget but i think you get what you pay for and like i said lesser parts or cheap materials always fail/wear out quicker or you end up arguing with the companys over it and doing the job twice anyway, your better off buying koni gas shocks and eibach springs imo at least you know its a proven set up and quality products with full support if you need warranty stuff doing, its only my preference and opinion, my fk kit was £350 so not that different price anyway, like you say it depends where you want to go with it all, dont use mine for track days but still wanted option of raising or lowering to suit my needs

Purple highline monster: i would kill for a vr like yours!! but my vr is getting on now, and to go down the top brand route ie koni/eibach or similar would probably cost more than what my vehicle is worth.iam too far gone now in cost respects; having had vibratechnics engine mounts, powerflex bushes, goodridge hoses etc, but i wonder where the prices come from sometimes for the designer gear.look at vw driver mags 1.8t gti project car, high miler, turned into a no ex

pense spared track car, its the owners choice, but for my car and many others weitec and gmax etc are good enough!!
