dubbin 0
not really sure where to put this but i will fire it in here and see how it goes. basiccly i have the idea of a s/c vr with around 400-500 hp, but i dont want just front wheel drive, i want 4, so i was thinking, taking into consideration the amount of work and money but at the same time an awsome project. a 4 wheel drive mk3 vr. is this possible to do by stealing the floorpan from a syncro, and welding it into the 3 door uk model, as i understand all syncros are left hand drive and 5 doors. what waould all this work entail, would there be any prob with the left to right hand dive change with the floorpan, and would normal syncro running gear cope with it and also whats the diffrence between a syncro engine and a normal vr if any?i am knew to the tuning side so bear with me guysany help appreciated, cheers
mk3anni 0
syncro engine was 2.9 not 2.8syncros came in 3 door tooyou will never see 400/500 from a super chargersyncro can only take 250ish bhp.On the basis of the above the rest doesnt need answering. Eat this 2
wouldnt it be easier to convert a synchro to rhd?
antera309 3
4wd has been retro-fitted to the mk3 (I know of at least one cabrio in Germany that's been done) but it's a massive job, requiring huge chunks of chassis to be welded in, relocation of the fuel tank and a fair bit of fabrication work.Power figures of 400BHP+ from a VR require a turbocharger and low-compression forged pistons. Probably some bottom-end strengthening too, but if you have the budget it is quite possible.Dubsingh on here has the closest thing to what you're after - a mk2 Rallye that's been fitted with a supercharged VR6 engine (280BHP-ish if I remember righly) that has also been converted to RHD. It's a pretty unique machine.
dubbin 0
thanks alot guys just wanted 2 know if it could realisticly be done. ye a think the best idea would be to go with a lhd syncro and convert it to rhd. but anyways a could just go with it being fwd with launch control etc. does this actually work well? there is a guy in my town with a 350-400hp mk2 golf, an s3 engine i think, built by bedrok dubs, and he hes lsd and launch control, also is only fwd but i watched this thing rip up the tarmac in the rain, no wheel spin just grip grip and more grip, was amazin?thanks again
mk3anni 0
I dont think you can have a RHD MK3 syncro, the down pipes and prop cause probelms with the steering rack.I dont see why you think you NEED RHD?? I have a LHD car and RHD car, and tbh the LHD is more natural and nicer. Why dont you just import a syncro and keep it as it is instead of wasting money.
antera309 3
Get a syncro, keep it LHD and fit a turbo. Turbo kits fit LHD cars much easier because the area behind the engine is free of brake servo, cables & steering column. That's why, in the US, turbos are favoured over superchargers on VRs. antera309 3
No, I didn't know the arrangement on the syncro was different to any other LHD mk3. Scrub that idea then!
mike 6
syncro can only take 250ish bhp.why is that?jake 'vr sick' on here is fitting his stage 3 charger and shrick ect to one and should be pushing more than that

J5KE F 0
hehehe! steve you make me laff! when it brakes i got to fix it.. but untill you brake it, how else would we know how far it can go??Some call me ruthless, some say i had more money than sence (past tense) and i'd be inclined to agree on the latter however these things need ideas to progress and progress we shall. That is the point in these forums is it not??I'm off to stealth tomorrow so will have some figures for you all, but I do agree with steve, it is only a matter of time before the rear diff decides its had enough! (as many mk2 rallye owners have found out)
