drive shaft bolts falling out!!!

Recommended Posts

hey guys ive been getting a ticking noise from my car for about a week, i got a mechanic to look at it and he said it was fine. all bushes etc were solid.

then today i got time to look at it my self and noticed that one of the bolts connecting the shfat to the gear box was hanging out and there was a metal but on it flicking around making a tapping noise,

another bolt was just missing!!!

a few of the others (on both shafts) were loose! i could tighten them up by hand!

very worrying and im getting them tightened up in the morning, where can i get these bolts from?

thanks

john

well i had something happen like this. the previous owner had put in incorrect bolts and my mechanic told me about this when he installed my springs. I asked him to order some correct bolts for me.

Anyway about 4 days later im sitting at a set of lights, take off in 1st to about 4krpm, shift to 2nd release clutch and *BANG*. I lost all drive and it just made a horrible grinding noise. got the car to the side of the road and had a look. It had sheared ALL of the bolts off on one side :P

Before re-fitting theses bolts, use a special loctite adhesive. NOT SUPERGLUE 3,4 or 5. :o Its specially designed for bolts which are prone to coming undone. You simply apply a bit of it onto the thread of each bolt before re-fitting. It stops them coming un-done by themselves but does not glue them in so you can't get them undone. Not sure if Halfords sell it but any good motor spares place should. PLEASE DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE OR ANY SIMILAR PRODUCT. I will not be held respoinsible
