how difficult is air con to retrofit to a vr6 ??

has anybody done this themselves?

i SHOULD be able to get all the bits from a late model car but i'm not sure how difficult it will be to fit.

i guess the dash will need to come out to fit the heater box underneath, the front panel will need to come off to fit the a/c rad and the pump and bracket, but other than that is it just a case of routing the pipes, plugging in the switch and temp sensors and getting it gassed up??

any help greatly appreciated. :)

I am told that the bulkhead centre section has to be changed to convert a non-aircon car to aircon, and the ETKA parts catalogue bears this out. Presumably the difference is just holes for the aircon pipework and mounting points for the different interior heater blower unit. It might be possible to modify your existing bulkhead centre section, but some cutting & welding might be required.

Other than this, it is indeed just a matter of transferring all the aircon components and pipework from one car to the other.

You also need to wire it into the ECU AFAIK - which is apparently the tricky bit as you need to find the specific pins.

I think it's the A/C 'readyness' and the fan controls that come from the ECU - but don't hold me to that!

I heard that the ECU connection is just to raise the idle speed when the air con is switched on. Might be wrong though.

At any rate, if you have access to a whole donor car and the OBD level matches, you could just transplant the engine & ECU wiring looms along with everything else. Seeing as you have to take the dash off anyway, it wouldn't be a lot of extra work.
