  1. Hi folks, Just a quick question before I break something that I'll regret... I'm attempting to replace the plastic clips which secure the rubbing strips to the doors as the front drivers one was ever so slightly coming up.I've purchased some new ones with the attached little rubbery grommets but what I'm finding difficult is removing the old ones which have perished/broke over time. I've tried levering them up gently with a small screwdriver which only resulted in breaking pieces off of them and also using my fingernails which resulted in pain and copius amounts of bad language. I'm as
  2. Thanks very much Bealieboy, that's the clamps I'm on about. My main concern about fitting them are obviously the fact that it looks terrible with the bolts totally on view but also the security angle and the possibility of having them nicked too easily(the flaps, not the clamps ) It's looking more and more like a screw on type of jobby. Thanks all for your replies.
  3. Might be a daft question folks but I'm assuming the bolt of the clamp faces away from the tyre? Had a go at fitting the flaps(rears)but can't seem to get my head around which way the clamps go...do you have to take the wheelarch liner out first before fitting, then replace after...or am I missing some obvious flaw in my thinking here? Thanks guys...
  4. Thanks very much for the reply mate. That sounds exactly like the ones that I've ordered...they should be here tomorrow. I'll try and get a picture of the flaps in situ...hopefully when I've fitted the new alloys as well.
  5. Hi folks, I've managed to source/buy a set of front and rear mudflaps for my VR6. My query is how to go about fitting them especially the rear ones.I don't really want to drill 4-5 holes in the rear bumper if I can help it. I did see a 4 pack of silver mudflap fixing U clamps off of Ebay which stated on the item description they were suitable for the VW Golf...they were only a couple of squid so no harm done if they ended up being the wrong type. I've attached a couple of pics of the aforementioned flaps for your ideas/opinions. Ta muchly,Gazeebo
  6. Could be a faulty crankshaft sensor...happened to my VR6.Car wouldn't start if I turned it off then tried to start it immediately...had to wait until it had cooled down before it started again.
  7. Thanks very much for the replies. Think I'll wait and see what the garage comes out with price wise before I attempt it myself. And as for getting there...is it a deffo no to driving it? Might have to phone them up to see if they'd consider coming and towing it.
  8. Hi folks, Got some issues with my 1997 P reg VR6 which are rather concerning me... Basically driving home yesterday when a loud noise started coming from under the bonnet.I pulled over and noticed that the aux drive belt was wavering from side to side and making a weird clicking/clanking sound coming from I think the water pump pulley which looked like it was loose. Managed to get home (1-2 miles) but in the mean time a hell of a lot of blue smoke was coming out the back of the car which was rather worrying.Eventually pulled onto my drive which resulted in the blue smoke filling the car
