  1. Shouldn't be too much - an hours labour?? Really is worth having a go, it is a simple job. Follow the sticky and you'll be fine.
  2. Just taken the tensioner off and stripped it down, and surely enough if was bone dry and very stiff. There was also a small bit of metal under the seals (can just see it at the bottom of the photo): Not sure where it came from, as bearing looked intact. Seals were a little worn, but after a load of grease was packed into the bearing they fitted back ok. Just put it back on and........... ....... she's running like a dream again! The benefits of this place are already apparent!
  3. Cheers, hopefully repacking it with grease will solve the problem.
  4. Should i have read the stickys first????? http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?155363
  5. Hi, got a '96 Golf VR6 with nearly 120k on the clock. Running fine but over the last week has developed a noise coming from the left of the engine (looking at it from the front of the car). Water and oil temp ok and no change to performance. Sounds as if a bearing is on it's way out or something. Was hoping it was just the fan belt but that looks in good nick. Any ideas? Water pump/alternator/tensioner? Anything common? Difficult to pin point exactly where the noise is coming from. Cheers
