  1. Ok, so i'm bored of seeing these threads too, but i'm running out of ideas! I keep getting an intermittent bog at full throttle. I went to overtake a car in second the other day, after about 25 mins of driving already, and it kangaroo'd it's tits off, i was sat next to the person i was overtaking for about 10 seconds :-/ Then on a 2nd or 3rd gear pull, passed about 4k, you can feel it sort of bogging and then kicking back in. There's no pattern to when it'll happen, it's incredibly intermittent, It can happen when cold or hot, rain or shine. Its also had New lambda, maf, coolant temp sensor, f
  2. Ok gents, just a quickie. When itb's are used on vr6s, the velocity stacks need to be longer on 3 of the throttles to counter the staggered lengths of the inlet ports... I know this much. My question is, how much longer do they have to be to makes sure all 6 cylinders are matched in length? Cheers!
  3. Thanks gethin! It's got a new maf in already, and I've got a lamda sat here to go in. Fingers crossed with that and a basic settings reset on vagcom, it should be better. It's going in for timing chains, LSD, clutch and long fifth next week!
  4. I've just thrown this together for a local forum from a years worth of thread on edition, so I apologise at how rushed it is haha! Last thing people may remember was mk2 on 17" LMs. Since then, I've had an e30, a mk3 with a hole in the gearbox, a mk3 VR, a Saxo vtr, and now I'm back in a VR, but its a bit special... This is it currently. Me and Orrin picked it up from a well random farm in darwen, after spotting it on pistonheads. It's a mk3 vr6, that was built by gti engineering before registered, so came from the factory with 270 cams, a fancy map, and fancy intake. It'd also had a 6 branc
  5. Afternoon gents. In my constant pursuit of eventually having the perfect gearbox in the golf, I've realised that I'm going to want a monster shifter. I was going to raise the standard shift tower up, and have a nice tall stick on it, but I've realised it's going to do nothing for the throw, which is horrendous. I don't think even the quick shift kits sort this out much do they? So anyway, I'd like one of those cae/all smiles tower shifter style ones, but don't want to pay the €899 euros CAE are asking. Does anyone know of any alternatives?
  6. Ive seen these things done with 20vt's before, so a kit like that should be fairly simple to adapt to VR surely? Always wanted to build one of these, with 6 throttle bodies poking out of one side of the bonnet, and 6 little exhausts poking out of the other side. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE NOOOOIIIIISSSSE!!!
  7. Ok, here's my funky little situation. I've got a VR that was built by GTi Engineering before it was registered, so has 270 cams and had a map to suit. It's then had a CAE intake, 6 branch, decat, suitcase delete, and a powerflow mid box and rear box It was then apparently mapped to suit these mods, and then i bought it. At this point, the power band came in at about 3750rpm, and was ludicrous after that, all top end power as apposed to normal low down VR power. Sounds like a motorbike apparently! NOW then, in prep for my turbo set up, i took out the mid box so i was left with a 1 box system. I
  8. So, mixed things really then? Standard will take power more power, but helix will protect it future... Ok! What's the deal with materials then? Organic? Carbon Kevlar etc?
  9. Ok, so I'm going to be fitting the LSD to the VR soon, but was going to put off doing the clutch as I thought it was ok... however, went for a country lane rip the other day, and after about 20mins of hard hard driving, it stared slipping going into third. SO, I'm going to fork out and do clutch too. The conditions to meet are: -210hp(ish?) Daily driver that'll have the wavetrac diff in. -Not often I launch it as I'm no all that into drag racing, more gettin power down properly once moving -I frequent b roads a fair bit, so that's when the aggressive clutch work happens -it's going to be turbo
  10. So, couple of weeks ago, my VR (once warm) started cutting out randomly at traffic lights, or the revs would drop right down then hunt back up to idle. Then it started coughing whilst driving along, cutting all power for like a second and then jerking into life again! Whilst all of this was happening, I noticed my mpg dropping, down 8-9 mpg to normal... Which in a cammed VR, is not nice So anyway, got it hooked up to vagcom, and these were the logged codes : Cleared the codes, went for a run, and no codes came up at all however, coolant temp sensor was reading 65-70degs, when it was clearly
  11. topped up the oil lastnight, and under the oil filler cap there was a bit of mayoish stuff... it was damp, so convinced myself it was just condensation. coolant isnt going down, not overheating, and looked again today and it was gone... Am i panicking, or should i suspect headgasket? Not what i need when im about to buy wheels and an lsd lol!
