Yes VR6 pump is much bigger than the 8v one, I replaced mine a few weeks ago. I think VR6 one may be same as 16v GTi, but not 100% sure.

so engine bay loom plugs into the loom for the dash etc? Love the colour of that car!

My vr6 is looking really tired, so I decided to start looking for another one, but theres nothing around. Plenty of GTi of the same vintage, so as they are basically the same car and I can use mine as a donor, I am thinking of putting my engine into a gti, is there any pit falls in doing this? I will have complete wiring loom etc, and my complete engine.

Car needs painting anyways as the sun has made a mess of it. I am going to smooth all the panels out, widen the arches very slightly, but was thinking of doing something a little more adventerous, while I am at it. I messed about with fotoshop, but sometimes helpful to see one thats been done. Just to clarify I mean a mk3 VR6 turned into a pick up, not a VR engine put into something else. I have promised that this will be my final project ever. (until I am bored of it and do something else)

Anyone ever done one or seen pics of one?

fuel guage not working

Yes you have to undo it and lift the pump and sender unit out. -
An update. After a world of tests, removing the pump 3 times, consuming 20 tins of beer and a lot of swearing the fault was traced to a kinked fuel pipe between the pump and the lid. The rubber pipe was fine when the pump was out of the tank, but once the lid was put on the pipe kinked. It seems that the pipe had gone really soft and had a crease in it, probably with age and being submersed in petrol most its life. The reason pump only ran for a split second was that it was only pressurizing 4" of tube, then cutting out. I am no novice with cars, but this one had me convinced it was an electr

Yes taken relay out and tested it. The relay receives power for a split second when the ignition is turned on, then nothing. So I think that the problem is further up the line than the relay. Is the relay switched by the ECU?

Have had terrible probs with my car running bad. After much head scratching the problem was traced to faulty fuel pump. It literally fell apart when we took it out. Now new pump is in but will not run. Relay triggers for a split second then goes off. We have taken the relay out and tested the connections at the fuel pump. Pump receives voltage for a split second. Any one got any suggestions what to look at next?

Hesitation/ possible misfire

I have got a similar problem. The VR6 I bought had been stored for some time (dry), I have changed the plugs, leads, rotor and all filters and fluids etc and is running way better, but it seems a touch hesitant and when going round right hand bends the power cuts out, not sure if this could be a similar problem or whether to start a new thread?
