  1. mention Worthersee and I appear..... ha ha ha

We have been going since 2004.... my advice is ... Go... and go for as long as you can...

We go for a week to 10days, including a few days before it all starts properly. Reifnitz is very quiet then but there are lots of little forum/club meetings around, we came across a cracking meeting of Rallye Golfs and stuff at the Pyramidenkogel days before the event.

Some people do go home before it all starts properly, but there's just so much there that you would never know you'd missed out, on the main days the traffic all around is just full of motors....

The dates for 2012 are 16th - 19th May... However as i said the show starts about a week/10days before with mini meets... so its totally up to you when you go... we will be leaving on saturday 5th and will take a few days to travel down and then leave the following Saturday evening to start the trip home so we can be back in work for the Monday. Unlike in England they do not have a show on the Sunday....

but be aware The Germans do love to party, and don't really seems to have a noise curfew... but it's not like pissed-up English tourists abroad, it's noisy and all that but it's not aggressive or violent, I've never once felt intimidated about walking around in the evenings amongst crowds of people. It's ace....

We stay in a self-catered guest house in one of the villages around the lake, called Pörtschach am Wörthersee. But theres campsites all around, and B&B's and Hotels too....there's a lake shuttle boat or speed boat taxis to help get around if you can't be doing with driving too

The journey takes about 18-20 hours non-stop going via the Tunnel, although we tend to break it up these days... staying in stuttgart or munich and visiting a motor museum... like BMW, Merc, Porsche etc etc... We have pretty much done them all so I can tell you more if you wanna know.... and the same again on the way home....

2011we covered around 2500 miles which included cruising round the lake! in my Audi

Diesel is much cheaper than Petrol... Fill up in Austria, and Belgium.. rather than France or Germany... and like the UK off the Motorways is cheaper, luxembourg is the cheapest place for fuel

The total cost of the holiday does depend on where you stay around the lake, on the route down or back... what type of car you take, diesel or petrol, how many of you in the car... usually we spend around £600 each,

The entry to the show which is 10 euros for the 4 days....you have to pay to use the toilets... but they are ALWAYS clean as they have a person outside.

Eating out isn't too bad either... couple of euro for chips... or we paid 8 euro for a really nice home made pizza within Reifnitz.

Beer is cheap in the supermarkets too.. under a euro for 1/2 litre

Not sure what else you wanna know....

you can check out our pictures from the last few years we have gone...

  2. not knocking the fact its a vr6' date=' i'd love it just as much as any other person but surely for towing a vehicle a diesel woulda been better? loads more torque and fuel costs would be nowhere near as much

    [/quote']

I looked at diesel ones and they were more expensive to buy.. and due to not covering many miles in the year the MPG won't be a big issue.... I will be using it tow tow around 8-10 weekends a year with under 100 round trip.

with regards to Torque, the first generation Sharan (From 95 to 2000)... the most powerful TDI engine has the same amount of torque as the VR6 - allbeit at a lower rev

oh and did i mention I am a sucker for VR6 noice....

  3. I have a VR6 back on the driveway... woo hoo... However its a Sharan.... 8-)

No I haven't got a family... I need a Tow Car for Drag Racing, so thought that a VR6 Sharan was the best option....

It needs a little work...have no idea where to start... but I guess getting it serviced and sorting out some new wheels... it also needs an exhaust and anti roll bar sorting...

  4. My friend posted this up last night on another forum so I thought I would post it on here.....

Wolfsburg, 04 August 2011 – We had great plans for him – so he had to make himself small: In the spring of 1991 debuted the first six-cylinder petrol engine from Volkswagen. The Revolutionary: The particularly compact design of the VR6 allowed the use of vehicles with front wheel drive and transverse installation, which predominate in nature, limited space under the hood.

As an added feature six-cylinder with a smooth and quiet operation in the luxury car segment was firmly established, but their size has required appropriate installation conditions. This should change: The Volkswagen developers were awarded the contract for a gasoline-powered six-cylinder for use in models with transverse engine and front wheel drive. With Golf, Jetta, Passat and Corrado, there were four vehicles in the model range, which had to offer in its compact exterior dimensions the largest possible interior. Then there was the bus line T4, which should also get the new six.

To place the premium unit can only handle half of the technical tricks. For a classic six-cylinder engine of the series for transverse installation would have been too long, and at a cylinder arrangement in a V-shape in the traditional 60 – or 90-degree angle, there had been problems with the width of the unit. The solution consisted of both concepts in a VR engine (V for V-type, R type series) combine. Due to the narrow angle of 15 degrees could arrange the cylinders in the engine block is narrower than in an inline engine, without the width to be spreading.

Under the name of the new engine generation VR6 was presented in 1991 – including the third-generation Golf, which also celebrates its 20th anniversary. Technically continuously up to the four-valve version developed the successful design VR lived under the shortened name on V6 and V5 in a shortened construction as in the Passat and Golf subsequent generations. Its final stage witnessed the VR6 in the Passat R36 from 2006, were generated in the meantime from 3.6 liters remarkable 300 hp.

  5. thanks very much for the info Abi :) how much of that total was the car hire ?

also on another note how come your not at Action ?

    From memory...

The car hire was £550.00' date=' that was for a brand new 10 plate Diesel Touran from my local VW Dealer (Wayside Milton Keynes) it was unlimited mileage and came with full euro breakdown... also 3 named drivers. Which I thought was a really good deal for 10 days and a 7 seater... but was great for the 4 of us.... Also we never worried about it....

    Tunnel crossing £100

Hotels and House came in about £900

Fuel, tolls and Motorway Tax was about £300

rest went on Food and beer for the house....

Not gone to Action this year.... Split is off the road and only running the fabia for MSA race meetings... so not got anything to run and not a fan of Christmas.... so a couple of is thought we would pop up to E38 for the day on sunday instead to see.... not been since the very first meeting at Billing which was a few years ago now...
