  1. Hi. I decided that today I would treat my vr to a new fuel filter, so I got one from Halfords- a champion type that doesnt fit the plastic cover unless you break it. Anyway I was going to de-pressureise but didnt bother so when I removed the hoses from the filter I thought it was going to spray everywhere but all I got was a trickle from it. Does anyone know if this is normal for a vr ? The pump when running is totally silent also.
  2. Yes I did. I replaced a load of sensors first which wasted a load of cash.I was really close to binning the car but took it to stealth, who diagnosed a bad superchip and incorrect cam timing.Neither of these problems would ve come up on vag com either. There is no substitute for knowledge and experience.
  3. You could try stealth racing before you start replacing sensors.
  4. Yeah Ive read the earlier threads from Tom about sourcing the parts but the problem area seems to be the ignition amp. Ive just spoken to Vince at Stealth racing about this and he is going to take some advice from a contact of his in the US. So hopefully a reliable plug and play MSD coilpack may be available at some point.
  5. Does anyone know where to go to buy an msd coilpack conversion for the vr6?
  6. Ok- its just that Ive used them super 4s with previous cars and though they seemed to offer not much of an improvement in power over any others they were a lot smoother.
  7. Hi there. Does anyone know which grade of Bosch super 4 plug are best suited to a vr6 (standard) given that Bosch dont actually have a listing for this engine?
  8. Lucky you with all that power- you must encounter G when you boot it!
  9. My Golf 3 vr6 highline was missing, pinking and basically flat as a pancake with 120 @ wheels. It went to several garages who said they could sort it, however - to no avail. I was seriously thinking of fitting a new engine when I searched around this site and came across Stealth Racing several times. Anyway the car was booked in and 2 major problems were unearthed. 1 a dodgy super chip- responsible for pinking and 2- the cam timing out by one tooth. So a massive thanks to vince and everyone else at Stealth for extracting 191 @ flywheel and 155 @ the wheels...
  10. Hi. Can anybody advise me of the best place to source a good 2.9 vr6 engine from- preferably in the midlands ? Thanks.
  11. Before I bought my highline vr, I had a 200 sx which although being totally devoid of any character was laying down 220 at the wheels. It slayed many fast cars in its time. However, I still prefer the vr6 for driving pleasure.
  12. I spoke to someone at Stealth and they reckoned I should be seeing 140-150 at the wheels, which would be nice. I would like a 1.8 T in it but that would be too pricey. will probably save cash and get a 2.9 conversion unless someone can find where my extra power is being lost...
  13. Davros calling Craggsy- Do you have a vagcom that could help diagnose a problem on my highline?
  14. Also the rr op scanned the ecu with a lap top and the only code left on was a rpm sensor. Would I have to go to a main dealer for vagcom? Maybe its worth one last try to fix before I get another engine...
