Engine Surging power...
spanner junkie replied to spanner junkie's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I think the MAF does show up on Vagcom yes, but as i say vagcom shows nothing. Ive just changed the rotor and Dizzy cap for VAG ones but i think the bearings are on the way out in the dizzy itself! Fuel filter is new and i havnt ran the tank dry either. Does the pulsing power thing sound like it could be a fuel pump or Fuel pump relay issue? -
Hi all,ive had a few problems with my early VR recently of which i thought id sorted them all out! My problem now is...my engine feels like its surging power whilst sat at a constant speed and has twice today almost cut out kangaroo stylee!felt as if id run out of fuel but i have a nearly full tank! Its all clear on vagcom, any ideas what could be causing this please? My Dizzy is sounding noisy and im thinking it maybe on its way out as the rotor is catching the cap slightly...could this be my problem do you think? Any suggestions welcome. Andy

Lol,After doing a few searches before posting this thread thats what i presumed people knew the long coolant pipe that goes along the front of the engine as! The only thing stopping me from bolting my new thermostat housing up is the missing o-ring! -
Hi all, I started to change my thermostat housing etc tonight only to find that i forgot to order the o-ring that goes on the end of the crack pipe! Doh!!! Anybody know what size it is please so i can pick one up tomorrow? cheers Andy

Front bearing Torque setting.....
spanner junkie replied to spanner junkie's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
On looking at a copy of the Bentley manual this morning it says..... Outer cv joint to wheel hub(with modified wheel hub) Stage 1......200Nm Stage 2......Loosen one turn Stage 3......50Nm Stage 4...... Tighten 1/12 turn..(30') I take it the initial high torque figure thats stated is to make sure the new bearing is seated correctly? -

Thanks. Am i correct in thinking the hub nut should be done up to around 200Nm/148lb ? -
I reckon it'll be alright with a bit of T-Cut lol Seriously though,it could have been a lot worse.A smashed up car is a lot better than losing someone close. Glad your missus was ok. I hope your Replacement VR is as enjoyable as this one was!

Thanks for having a look for me Carl. Is it a special clip?As i popped a circlip on the end yesterday and was only able to select 3rd,4th,and 5th gear! I dont suppose anybody has a picture or part number for the said clip do they? -

Thanks Carl. i just what i was thinking as there is a groove on the rod at the end of the white plastic bit! Thanks Andy -
Ever since getting my VR ive had a sloppy gearchange! Whilst changing my centre console i had a look around the gear selector and noticed that the shifter is quite sloppy and it looks like there should be some sort of circlip on the end! The question is....should there be!? This is what it looks like.... Engine start up and running problem....?
spanner junkie replied to spanner junkie's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hello Paul The idle control valve is located underneath the black cover on the top left of the engine, undo the cover and look for a silver cylinder shaped part with a couple of pipes going to it,undo the pipes and slide the cylinder out of its rubber holding strap...all i did then was blast it inside with carb cleaner until it cleared all the gunk out and ran clear. Cheers Gezza, you were spot on! I cleaned out the idle control valve with carb cleaner until it was clean as a whistle! The car runs like an absolute dream now. :-d Goldie- i changed the Lambda sensor a few weeks back for a Bosch direct fit one. Should my Coil pack be making a ticking sound guys? -

Thanks dude i'll give that a go over the weekend and see if that sorts it out! -
Hi, Im hoping somebody may be able to point me in the right direction as i have a problem with my engine in my 93 VR6! The problem is.......From start up the engine revs bounce up and down and it cuts out occasionly. There is a slight misfire at idle once the engine has warmed up a little but generally there arnt any problems as to the running or performance of it when you put your foot down!. Im not sure if this is related to the problem but my Beru coil pack seems to be making a 'ticking' sound,is this normal? And the exhaust gases out the back have a funny smell to them!(Smells like its run
