Thanks for the replies, I will take the head off and see what its like. Car repairs is my trade and I have a decent workshop so there will be no labour involved fortunately. I will post back when I get it stripped and maybe add a few pics for the benefit of anyone interested. Thanks Again Lee

Firstly hi to all on this forum!. My 1994 Golf VR6 has just started to produce clouds of white smoke every now and then. I can drive it for 30 miles in and out of traffic with no problems then usually while at traffic lights I see it start to produce white smoke from the exhaust, a little at first then it fills the street as I pull away, then usually it will clear and be fine again for a random amount of time. There is no noticable lack of power when this happens just a slight misfire then back to normal. I also noticed that I have oil running down the exhaust manifold and burning off when hot
