  1. anyone suggest what/where to get as a replacement? not running any serious ice (unfortunately) so probably don't need anything special
  2. thanks for the advice. charged the battery overnight, and hurrah! it started first time. Didn't drive it that day, went back to it this morning to give it a good run on the motorway, and its dead again - absolutely nothing now, not even the clicking from before. So, I assume that means that the battery is dead? Which is obviously better than a dead alternator....! The date on the battey said 2001, is that about right? or should I be looking for something else too? cheers
  3. Hi Ive had a search through the forums but cant seem to find anything that 100% matches the problem im having so..... Upon trying to start my 1995 golf vr6 this morning, ignition lights up, no error codes (apart from the service one!), but the engine does not turn over or start. It makes a kind of clicking noise instead of turning over- opening the bonnet and listening to it - sounds like, well, a mechanical machine gun is the only way I can describe it. It actually sounds like its coming from the engine block itself, but that could just be me being stupid. Having tried it a few times, sometim
  4. all comments are apreciated, thanks £430 is for a standard VW clutch + replacement master arm... Mr Clutch uses new, 3rd party brands.... I know mr clutch is clearly not the "best" choice - but if i'm going to sell the car before the 2 year warranty expires, does it really matter? oh how i wish i could win the lottery...!!!!!
  5. Hi all The guys at The Phirm have told me that my clutch (and probably master arm) is knackered - its £430 all in for a replacement. This is obviously very good value, as the guys there are absolutely brilliant. However "Mr Clutch" will replace the lot for £320 - this is a significant saving, and as I am very broke at the moment, this money would come in handy. They don't use VW bits, but use branded aftermarket clutches instead, which come with a 2 year/ 20,000 mile guarantee. Does anyone have any experience with Mr Clutch (they are a national chain)? I obviously want to take it to The Phir
  6. Hi All There are a few threads along this theme already but they all asume prior knowledge, of which I have none!! *-) so.. I want to change the black trim on my 1995 golf vr, but I'm not sure what my options are - can I get the bits resprayed? what about just pulling them off - the later models which don't have the trim, have they got extra body-coloured trim, or nothing at all? if I do pull the bits off, i assume there will be holes that will need filling? Also, the paintwork is pretty dull (a weeks worth of polishing should sort it apparantly) but I guess the paint underneath the trim wil
  7. Hi all I Bought my first red 1995 VR6 last night! Its got a bit of wear, but generally good nick. Unfortunately its not cold starting too well, and to be honest it needs a good service. Can anyone recommend a good garage to get a full service - I want to avoid expensive VW dealerships if possible. I live in Rickmansworth, junction 17 on the M25. thanks all, Adam
