  1. It's ok i'm not doing it after all, my cousin will do it for me as he has a workshop with a press for the bearings, the tool for pushing the calipers in, cover to keep the rain off and no bloody great hill to worry about working on a car with no brakes thanks for the help though
  2. Hi guys, hows things? long time no post My VR just failed it's MOT on rear disks (12% efficiency :-d), the front disks and pads also came up on advisories so i went to GSF and got everything. The rear bearings also came up as advisories so while i had the wheels/brakes off i thought i'd might as well do them too. I don't have a manual for the golf so is there anything i have to look out for or take care with? I've done brakes on a cavalier so i know general stuff, just looking for any VW/VR6 specific pointers really Cheers people.. Col EDIT: anyone know where i can get a Bentley manual? i
  3. It was good to see everyone and meet new people Good turnout and well done to Claire I took a fair few pics so it's probably easier to look at the gallery here!! If anyone wants a high res version of any of the pics let me know your email and i'll send it to you (~4Mb each)
  4. I'll probably show up for this would have said sooner but i've had uni stuff going on
  5. Hi mate i'm down in Plymouth
  6. yeah, i've been told it could be the bushes in the alternator regulator that have worn, i'll keep it in mind i'll need to locate the alternator first lol no doubt it'll be hard to get to on the VR
  7. I'm gonna try pulling fuses and disconnecting things to narrow it down today. Not the central locking pump as far as i know, i can't hear it going and the battery is around 9-10 months old, as i'm getting a measurable drain current i'd imagine that rules the battery out.
  8. Nope, no audio gear. Took me a few minutes to work out what you meant, i thought you meant amps as in the unit of current
  9. nope, not the boot light or glovebox (got an airbag don't have one as such) and the light by the sunroof controls is off :-|
  10. Ok on sunday i cleaned my car atarted it up and left it running for a few mins then turned it off. Went to go for a drive yesterday and the battery was flat, so flat that the battery was only 1.66V I charged the battery overnight then refitted it and tested the drain with a multimeter and there was a 0.38A drain :S seems a bit too high to me. AS far as i know there aren't any lights that stay on etc. i'm just going to have to pull fuses one by one until i find a culprit. Someone has mentioned that it could be worn brushes in the alternator regulator but other than that it's a case of hunt th
  11. Funny you say that as that's exactly what he's been looking at
  12. I think i remember telling a few of the people who went to the RR day all the way back in December about my brother's car, well here is the conclusion i suppose.... Last summer on ebay my bro saw the car he had been lusting after since we went to the motorshow when it first came out, the problem was it was a cat C write off... Anyway he bidded for it and won it for £9k (almost identical straight cars were going for £20k+ at the time) It was taken straight to the bodyshop attatched to the garage where my dad worked for immediate attention (the bloke who it was collected from shat himself

    Red vr6s

I have a flash red one I think when it's kept in good condition red is as good as any colour but to be honest i can't really think of a dodgy colour that the VR came in apart from one colour maybe but it isn't bad just not to my taste, there'll be snow mention of white colour it is p.s. i've not been around for a while due to uni work bit off topic but there u go lol
