  1. Thanks, reckon it's standard - a mate got it - this is what is setting me thinking that it's the wrong one. However, whilst it was new, it was unboxed. I'll ask him. My concern perhaps is that the temperature also varies - it doesn't stay constant - whereas it used to, and this wouldn't answer the constant fan running unless the connectors inside the thermostat switch is arranged diferrently too??? Grrr and dubble grrr...
  2. Once again many thanks to those with the knowledge, has improved things since Saturday fiddling. And yup, aux pump churning away happily, to be honest it's that which seems to have been causing the cavitation? or bubbles to be pushed around. However, have noticed more itty bittys though. Engine doesn't warm above 80c either in town or on long runs - used to sit permanently at 90 c dead centre on the dial; and something that might be connected and I've not noticed before - both fans are permanently on from start up (when cold or warm), not on the higher speed, but the lower 'idle' speed. The h
  3. Many thanks, will try this a.m. - ahhh sweet freedom in the garage away from daily chores, diy and children - gotta take at least 3 - 4 hours at least right?
  4. Saddo back. My VR6, most communicative now, gurgles at me when I turn the engine off and doesn't reach the mid-point 90c mark on the in-dash indicator. I suspect there's air in the system following the change of thermostat. Any advice from anyone out there? YES I know it's Friday night and I'm sat at the pooter but the new age is an age of discovery and I haven't managed to offload the three boys and therefore am here.....HELP again
  5. Thankyou ma Golfing chums. New thermostat and all is running ticketyboo. Lesson learnt for all perhaps - get the bits and bobs to replace the thing, hide under the stairs until you need them -apparently one will at some point!
  6. Cheers Guys So good to have knowledge out there, that incidentally VW should provide on a database, but then again with their knowledge of their own cars I do wonder how useful that would be. As you can imagine I'm a little bit green on VR6 stuff but have fiddled and tinkered with all manner b4 this beauty arrived with me a year or so ago, no problems until now, sweet. Have looked and found an electric pump. My understanding is that this circulates water around the head, particularly good when the engine is stopped and the main pump is not rotating, as it prevents heat build up and potential w
  7. Strange thing this. No CO2 in the water no high pressure feeding into the header tank. No obvious leaks (no tell tale coolant colouration either). Car warms up runs for about 5 minutes and then overheats. Fans are cutting in OK. Main water pump is happily pushing the coolant into the header tank at idle, checked and is ok, plastic impeller still intact. Am suspecting a stuck thermosts or is there an auxilliary pump? that may not be working? HELP! Am currently tooling around in a 1400 Mk3
