  1. Perhaps the thoughts of another SC VR driver.

    I drive mine daily.

    Setup:

    C2 8psi Kit with V1.

    Dastek ECU from stealth.

i think my setup is far from perfect, it is NOWHERE near the advertised 280BHP, probably more like 240BHP! Anyways, its fine i enjoy it non the less.

    Current driving issues:

Hates engine braking, if you let it overrun it will stall when you let it idle (ie if you come to traffic lights in 3rd and then put the clutch down)

This requires the non-DVLA approved approach to driving which involves coasting.....which is a pain. I can drive it without stalling at all now, its not particularly hard.

Also transitions from part throttle (20vac) to wide open (>0PSI) takes a delay, i have a feeling this is the recirc valve sticking. Any part throttle from greater than 20vac results in instant power.

Wide band tells me the engine is very rich on over run.

I currently have a MAF setup with no voltage clamp, but have the large C2 MAF housing.

TBH, if you can adjust your driving style slightly to eliminate the overun issue, its fine.

  2. I think my c2 manual said every 22000 miles,

but, i've heard of people who have run up to 50000 miles no service!

its easy if you have one, just unhook it, unscrew the outer casing and check the flutes, vanes and screw for damage.

Mine is on about 11k and is in pristine condition, probably bemuse it wasn't driven this winter

  3. Check ISV, check for leaks in the intake system. Pump the break pedal, does the engine stutter excessively?

You cannot 'adjust' the idle like on an old carb run engine, its EFI, so its controlled by the ECU.

But generally cars idle when cold but not when warm, so i'd check for the air leaks.

also might not hurt to check out the various warm up gear such as thermostats...

its been a while since i've thought about this stuff, maybe someone else can help?

  4. if you want a grin on your face - try the v1 vortech, its slightly bigger but has a HUGE super charger whine.

with quite a rich top end, youll get different mpg when driving hard (much wilder than normal!), i found my average mpg down to 19mpg and 17mpg with the aircon on, although i'm usually always on the boost and rich map.

i have 4 years no claims and paid £1890 fully comp with all mods declared with HIC, the mods include exhuast, £600 for the alloys, stereo/ice, lights and so on, suspension. im 24.

  5. v1's pretty solid man, at 6 psi its not even bothered by nuthin. you could easily check the inlet for oil....if there is u know its charger...doubtful tho.

might wanna look in to stem seals or maybe its just running rich on the overrun and full throttle..normal tbh...

mine smokes when i floor it too (and our set up is pretty similar)

  6. tell u what, check if you got a compressor, look at your pulleys, crank, power steering pump, water pump, auto tensioner and alternator is 7 pulleys 6 pulleys means youve got an aircon compressor...correct me if ive missed a pulley out :)...(assuming you have no supercharger), im also assuming all vr's use a pulley driven compressor.

  8. you should have a 3.17 inch pulley (may slightly bigger)

my 3.17 inch pulley for my V1 vortech supercharger makes 6 psi on the dot.

once you've lowered the compression you can take it up a notch (i dunno, depends on your c/r but, 10psi? sound good?) problem your gonna have is with fuelling unless u got the bigger injectors and or fuel pump. Also anything over 300bhp will require a stronger gearbox (this is generally agreed i think)

i would check the make of your vortech charger first, is it v1, v2 or v9?

    then call stealth racing.

tbh, 8psi is probably more along your lines, 280bhp estimated...10 is probably gonna be 300bhp. but you can help things with exhuast mods and other engine mods.

the most important question i guess, is..are u sure its 6 psi? most people dont look at the boost guage at full throttle at high RPM's...try 2nd gear on an empty motorway from the hard shoulder? take it 6500rpm and see what boost it reads...probably safer on the rolling road though.
