  1. I know what you mean, in between my VR being poorly and costing me loads, it brings a huge smile to my face when u smoothly accelerate first thing in the morning and hear that sweet six pot song as you pull away from the house :D

  2. On the positive reviews of Stealth racing, I'm going to book my VR in for:

    1. A new exhaust, probably the Supersprint with letterbox style tip as mine is finally blowing on the original system.

    2. Along with my front brakes looked at (again!!! - though not by Stealth) for brake judder, so new discs and pads plus perhaps new calipers? God knows what the problem is, been looked at by the dealers 4 times, and a VW specialist, all they seem to do is fit new discs and pads. So hopefully Stealth maybe able to find the underlying problem to cause premature disc warping! They last about 4 months before the judder sets in again ~:(

    3. Do they do beisbarth alignment? As my car is handling like crap and it looks like one wheel is seriously off in camber!

    4. Gonna get the suspension top mounts and bumpstops checked as I have FK Edition Coilovers which handle well around corners but when going over speed bumps the car seems to bounce down and hit the road (after the bump), doesnt feel right even for a lowered car and taking them rediculously slow too. My front splitter has been truly in the wars!!

    5. Needs a service, but I'll take it to VW for this to maintain the FVWSH, so that's £125 for an oil and filter change! Need this as I plan on claiming on the 11yr anti corrosion warranty I believe I am entitled to!

Anyway, everything always seems to come together when things go wrong or need general maintainance on cars!!! :( Probably looking at 700-800 over the next month. And oh joy then insurance is due :@

  3. All depends on anyone actually being gullible to do it, I sent out a similar one just out of curiosity, that was a month ago, and had nothing since. But then I never actually paid the £3 to the top guy anyway, there is no way anyone knows if you yourself paid the £3. Good luck though, let us know if you get anything!!

  4. Okay the new Pioneer AVIC-X1 is what I really want, yet it costs £1399 in the UK!!! :@ But in the USA the same unit but named the AVIC-N1 is available for £815

So what difference are there going to be except for the DVD maps being of North America?

    Will RDS work here etc?

I'm sure I can source a Europe DVD map disc for not much money!

  5. It's an 11 year warranty on rust if you have a a fully galvanised body. I have FVWSH so I'm gonna try and get it done under warranty! I have rust on the rear door hinge thing like binliner, and along the bottom of the other rear door.

  6. Hey I've got the same issue, somethings blowing on my exhaust, not sure where yet but I know I need a new exhaust as the original is still there and looking very corroded!

Which part numbers is it for a full supersprint system, keeping it legal (doesn't a de-cat pipe fail MOT?)? Also, will the GTI back box be the same as the VR6 version (different part numbers though!)??

    Thanks!

  7. rear.jpg if ya like it pm me and il root through my papers and find out what it is ( it looks ALOT better now its shined up) it sounds fantastic anyway :)

Is that a towing bolt visible :P

Like the rear end and exhaust though! Mine still has it's original exhaust on... 7 years :) Need to save for a nice new shiny one!

  8. I had my vr lowered about 3 months ago, and the coilovers provide a very stiff ride but the handling is much better! However how low have you got your's lowered?? As you can see I would clearly scuff the front splitter if I moved any further forward, not ideal having to stop short in many parking spaces... I'm sounding all practical now lol !amazed

  9. I get around 38mpg at 60-70mph on long stretches and 30-32 doing 80-90. Rest of the time it's between 15-26 around town. Did 100 for about 30 mins and it came up as 27mpg... doesn't sound too bad :)

  10. I just put my Rockford 12" Punch sub back in, and tested for rattles. The boot area really rattles from outside, quite embarrasing as Mark said! So today I took the boot door card off and set about determining which bits are rattling. I found it was the plastic recepticles which the door card clips slot into. So I got some rubber plastic sealant and went around each of the plastic recepticals! Boot lid rattle now gone, plus my number plate is glued on using foam pads. However now I can hear rattles around the sides of the rear bumper!! GRRR Not sure how to deal with this one!!

  11. Mine has the back door hinge rust problem too, only on the offside though. Also has a 50p coin sized rust spot on the bottom edge of a rear door. mine is a '97 highline! Can't believe it, didn't spot it when I bought it in Sep '03. Oh well.

As for build quality, I agree with the previous comments, it seems just to be the plastics etc used. Much more agreable than a '93 Golf GL I used to drive.
