  1. Thanks for that, it's a 1997 VR6 Highline 5 door.

Forgot to add, it's had FK AK coilovers on for the past two years and these are now too harsh hence me getting this kit.

Anyway...this is the kit I bought (though not from this supplier: http://www.dcp-shop.co.uk/buy-car-accessories/product_info.php?products_id=3902

The top spring plate shown in my photo is a brand new part from VW and having searched in my shed I've found the original top cap from the OE front suspension (it is the same cap, identical) and it is slightly too wide to fit the top of the spring. I measured the top of the spring and it's around 75mm, the VW spring cap is 80 so just sits on top of the spring rather than going inside it.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks again :)

  2. Hi, I'm hoping someone can help.

I have bought the GMAX suspension kit for our VR6. The kit is the 40VW25.

The problem I have is that the garage I took it to says I am missing the top spring cup or spring seat (for the front suspension, rear appear to fit fine)?

The original VW part appears not to fit the top of the spring, in the photo below is one of the front suspension spring and damper and the original VW spring (is it called a seat or cup I'm not sure?). Question is, am I missing a part from this suspension kit and if so what is the correct terminology so I can go back to the supplier!

    Thank you!

  3. My 1997 VR6 Highline has been suffering terrible hesitation and stuttering, now to begin with this was happening just on damp mornings until the engine warmed up but now it is bad all the time, starting is not a problem though.

On inspection in dim light there is arcing between the coilpack surface and some of the leads, when this is happening the engine misses and the engine shakes badly! Seems it has the cracked coilpack problem so many VR6 owners have reported previously.

    A few questions:

    1. Where is the best place to buy a replacement coilpack - dealer, online parts shop?

    2. Is there just one manufacturer of replacement coilpack and if more than one which is the best and most reliable?

    3. How do I remove the leads/plugs from the coilpack? I ask as when I attempted removing one today I could pull the plug out slightly but the rubber kept holding onto the coilpack tightly and would not budge, is it a case of just pulling even harder? I didn't want to pull the plugs too hard incase I damage them - is there a special tool like there is for removing the spark plugs? Can't see how there would be but still! :)

    Cheers,

    Glyn

  4. Booooo! ha ha nah nice cars they are - is that the one down from the GTR or something? Or is that the GTS?

haha yep it's the model below the GTR, single turbo 2.5L straight six 280BHP. I should still be insured on the VR6 which is good if I start to miss it :)

  5. I've not been on these forums as often as I would like but they have given me a lot of useful info on the VR6 so thanks everyone. Well I am now selling the VR after nearly 3 years of fun and trouble free veedubbing!

Luckily I am selling my beautiful black highline to my dad as his car has just packed up so it is staying in the family for now at least :)

Now for the self plug bit, I have a few parts for sale: a new BMC CDA, used FK Angel Eyes and a new genuine Golf mk3 bumper (unsprayed and in primer).

So if anyone is interested check out the for sale section please, FK angel eyes are not on ebay as yet so make me an offer.

    Thanks for reading :)

  6. Does anyone else feel like their VR6 has terrible traction unless it is bone dry?? The amount of times I can feel the car losing grip around damp roundabouts is rediculous! Plus I had another run in with that bloody Teg on a straight and placed it in 2nd spins, 3rd it spins goddamit!! I have the standard Dunlops and 30mm drop on FK Editions/AK coilovers, any suggestions for improving my grip?

  7. Oh god am I in trouble now, a good friend of mine has just bought herself a mint '98 Integra Type R.... &|

Took me out for a boost, and my my my that is a quick car and it handles like nothing I've felt before through the twisties. Makes me wonder about my VR sometimes especially the Type R's 0-60MPH of 6.2 sec ~:( I love my VR to bits but I'm left wondering would I be better off in an Integra!? Admittedly it is not as smooth and rather flimsy but it sure is fun feeling that VTEC in full song B)

    Plus she's a girl, younger than me :@ ;)

  8. your car still goes 140mph +

had an ST24 come charging up behind me so decided to see what they are like never having really seen one about. Floored it and he kept up for a while then got caught in traffic, he got a clear lane through a roundabout and went ahead of me. So I thraped the VR and caught up, he was taking it easy by this time and then he saw me in his mirror so he decided to floor it, at which point I thought why not (been a while since I let the VR really breathe) so kept up with him perfectly on his bumper (I could see him keep looking in his mirror at me), then to my surprise I was doing 143mph and was getting a little toooo close to his bumper so he pulled over and I flew by (thumbs up from us both!). I was so chuffed I thought my VR was poorly but far from it, and that is the fastest I have ever been in it! - totally standard engine too :)

  9. Ok just been yesterday to have it done at a Hi-Q tyre place, £25! haha anyway they couldn't do it because One tyre was bald on the insie!?! :@ and needed a new one, I had a dilemma because I was planning on getting new alloys within a few months, now a brand new tyre will go to waste :( Then came the decision on which tyre to go for, they only had some cheap crap and the Goodyear Eagle F1s are out of stock in the whole country apparently!? And they are directional so would need a pair... so I'm gonna have to have a think about what to do. So now I have to wait ~:(
