  1. no its detailing products from detailing websites' date=' not halfords!

I use different products for different effects, but am not going to say on here the ones i use... the pictures say enough.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't suggesting you were using halfords stuff... just that if you were charging to do it people would expect you to be using decent products (which I now know you are!) ;)

I'm sure you'll get some takers... maybe just offer the service and price it according to what each customer wants doing

  2. Price would depend on what products you were using... if I was going to pay someone to do my car the sort of money that's been mentioned for a pro job (ie £150+) I'd expect them to be using a machine polisher with products to match.

If you're using decent polishes and a quality carnuba wax etc it's worth paying for but I can't see people wanting to pay a lot if you're using products they can buy in Halfords (despite what the above post says, most megs waxes don't last 5 minutes!)

  3. I'm getting a droning/whirring type noise that gets louder the faster I go (it's not too noticeable under 70mph but gets a lot louder by 80mph) I'm presuming it's a wheel bearing but can't tell where it's coming from exactly...

How do I check which wheel? Is it just a case of jacking up each corner and wiggling the wheel top to bottom?

Is there anything else that could cause that sort of noise?

    cheers

  4. Standard VR ET is 35

ET on standard wheels is actually 45 (or possibly 42 cant remember) but they're 6.5J wheels... that equates to about ET 32 on a 7.5

your current wheels at et30 and with a 10mm spacer means they are effectively et40 which is why they fill the arches nicely :)

As has been said adding a spacer pushes the wheel out further thus lowering the et

  5. It's not just the ET that will affect it, the style of wheel will as well. The offest is measured between the centre of the wheel and the mounting face but the shape of the spokes is also a factor and that can only really be tested by fitting the wheel.

The other thing you don't mention is the wheel width... In theory the same size wheel and offset would fit if it's the same width (but like I say, not guaranteed) If you went for a wheel with a higher offset you could get it to fit by using different sized spacers (or you could go for an offset a few mm lower with no spacer)

  6. iv put 17's on all 3 of my mk3 golfs' date=' had 3 sets on this one, imo any other size looks too small / big

I've had several different 15, 16 & 17 on various VR6s and I much preferred it on 16x8 D90s in terms of the drive... looks is a bit trickier as I've had some nice 17s but I think the right 16s suit a mk3 better than anything
