Playing cds, all sound comes through one speaker

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i recently fitted a new head unit to my vr6 and it works fine on radio, but when i want to play a CD, its unbearable as all the sound comes through just the one speaker.

Even on lowest volume setting its way too loud.

Hope some one can help, thanks alot for your time.

Thanks for the help mate, but, its not a new headunit. I had it in my old 1400 mk3 and it played no problems at all. I spoke to some one last night about it and they suggested that it might be because there is an amp in the vr6's but didnt know where it was? any ideas?

Cheers mate.

Amp as standard news to me m8, even if there was dont understand how that would effect just cd and not radio. Been installing audio for over ten years now gonna say its your head unit decided to play up. Try your local Halfords we all have test rigs so should be able to test it for you in a couple of mins and help you sort it out, will depend on whether you get a good employee :) or an arse :@ but if you dont ask you dont get..Let me know what you find out.

hi mate, sorry its taken to so long to reply, i went to halfords and they werent much help to be honest. They said that it might be the cables that are burst, the phono ones? would that be right? Any way , im still no further forward.

im not sure if they are burst mate, thats just what the guys at halfords said that it could be!!

Also, i discovered yesterday that its not just all coming through one speaker, the sound comes through only all the back speakers, none of the front ones. The speakers do work in the front, as they are fine when the radio is on. The volume is unbearable even on the lowest setting when listening to a CD too.

No mate, im not running any amps, subs, 6x9's etc, its all standard apart from a headunit!!

Appreciate your time and help mate!! :)

Right did you cut any of the car harness wiring at all when you fitted it if not it will still be on its original iso block. You need to borrow a head unit from someone and just plug it into the car and check your wiring once and for all....If you cant borrow one maybe as a last resort buy a cheapie as long as its on iso....

Then when you find out your car is ok which you will, you will have to get your stereo repaired from a car hi-fi specialist ...

Just realised we couldn't live further apart one end of the country to the other .... because i would happily look at it for you.

haha typical thanks anyway mate!

I didnt cut any wires at all, thy are all still in the original block.

I'l pinch my sisters headunit for a bit and see if that works (never thought about doing that, haha).

I find it weird though mate that it works on the radio fine, through all speakers etc, its only when i select the CD?

Anyway, il give another head unit a try and get back to you, probably try that today or tomorrow,

Again, thanks alot for your help. :)

Right, tried a new/different headunit, and it works fine. Only thing is it doesnt have a multi changer connection on it, just a single CD slot!! But at least i know i can play cd's now at an acceptable volume :)

Do you think it was the headunit or the wiring to the multi changer which was causing the problem? I want o buy a new headunit, prefrably one with the multi changer connection, or should i stick to the single CD slot??#

Thanks so much for your help, im so pleased i can now listen to my cd's again.

Now you mention you got a multichanger is quite likely that the cable has been damaged during fitting removal etc you can get a new lead for about £30 which might be cheaper if thats the fault. What make of changer you got..

Most head units now play mp3 if you got the facilty to burn ya own cds maybe thats the way to go

Its a sony CD changer, just the one that came standard with the car. I think im just going to buy a new headunit anyway but will get a new cable aswell in case it is that.

Yeh i always burn my own cd's, at least you get the music you want that way eh :)

will let you know what headunit i get and hopefully it all works fine once in!!

thanks alot again for your help, sure you have better things to do.

After browsing the net i decided i fancied one with a usb input port on it (never knew they existed), would be handy.

After looking more on the net and at halfords i found one i liked : http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=KDG821

Halfords price = £299.99

Online price = £137.00 DELIVERED!!!

Quite a good price for a not too bad headunit eh mate?

What you think of it?
