slight splutter thoughout the entire rev range and serious loss of power (help needed)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have a 1995 golf VR6 and well i'm fairly new to this VR6 thing and have just had my clutch and timing chain sorted but now I have another problem, before the car went in for the previously mentioned work it drove like a VR6 should, I also have a R reg Golf VR6 and have commpared the 2 of them, now I have it back from the garage the car has a noticible splutter throught the entire rev range and never reaches the red line also the car seems no where near as quick as it did before it went to the garage to be worked on, I mean its by no means slow just noticably not as good as it was, now I am gonna take it back to the garage tommorow to tell them I'm not happy with it and to get it sorted cos this was not easy on the wallet as you can probably understand.

anyway can anyone suggest what the problem could be as I really have no idea about cars myself so would not know even where to start.

soz for the long post

if you need anymore info please ask, I would really appreciate any advice given.

Thanx

Dyno

Sounds a lot like what I've been experiencing for the last couple of weeks mate. I had a spare fuel pump relay in the garage, so thought I 'll change it see what happens. Ran a lot better, but still some spluttering between 1500 and 3500rpm. Went for a quick pint tonight, when I parked up thought I'll disconnect the MAF and see how it drives home. Driving home went even better, didn't notice any spluttering at all, but still some hesitancy when the foot was put down but thought that might be down to the MAF not been connected. So I think the MAF may be kebabed. You could try cleaning yours mate , see if it makes any difference, or try disconnecting it and taking it for a spin. Sorry for the longwinded reply. Also, if you have just had your chains done, like said above, could be your timing.

OK thanks guys the spluttering was fixed with new plugs but the car seems to lack power too also the bite position on the clutch appears to be really high( IE i get the clutch most of the way up before i feel it bite) the lack of power is only on acceleration as it will do 130 MPH easy just takes longer to get there than my other VR6 does, is there a hayes or equivilent manual for the VR6 so i can start learning properly .

again any suggestions on the reported problems are greatly appreciated.

once again

thanx guy's, your ace

gonna play with a little @ the weekend see if i can sort it out

Who did the work on your car mate? Sounds as though the timing may be out. I had a serious lack of power in acceleration when I had my cams put back in incorrectly. Also if you go to a vr6 specialist get them to check your car on vag com (for free) to see if you have any sensor faults. Failing that it sounds as though the cams, or chains were put back incorrectly. Get the garage to do it all again for free if it turns out to be the timing as that can cost a serious amount of money to fix!
