spindat45 0
I fitted my GMAX shocks and springs yesterday. Everything I had been told about the GMAX set up is correct. The ride is not too hard or too soft and its brought the whole car "down to earth" by a sensible 40mm as well as improving the handling. Anybody who is on a budget or just doesnt want to go down the coilover route then I would definately recommend these.
mike 6
how much did it cost?i want it more like 60mm but dont want to fork out for coilovers
spindat45 0
The kit i got costs around £240. Managed to get a bit of a discount. I'm putting 17's on mine soon and didn't want to go any lower because of those damn speed bumps and to avoid rubbing. I don't think that they do a 60mm spring/shock set up but the 35mm kit i fitted has dropped me by about 40mm. had a Raceland spring/shock kit on my previous mk3 (not a VR) but the ride was harder than the GMAX and also a bit lower even though it was sold as 45mm.Check out there site and give them a call. http://www.gmaxsuspension.co.uk/ They are quite helpful and also do next day delivery for a small charge. colourconceptvr6 0
Hi there, just wondering if you have got 17's fitted yet?I fitted a G-Max Suspension about a month ago and ive got 17's on but the 205/40/17 tyres are rubbing of front and back arches with the slightest dip in the road and turning every corner *-) *-) Has anyone else got a G-Max suspension with 17's and had the same problem???Cheers
spindat45 0
Hi CC. Fitted my 17's a couple of weeks ago. They do rub a little bit but only when I have weight in the back or hit a serious bump. I'm running on TT Comps also with 205/40/17's but if the offset of your wheels is different i.e. the outer edge of the wheel sticks out further, then that could be why you are experiencing more rubbing. Mine does not sound quite as bad as yours but the fronts do rub a bit. I'm having my arches rolled soon to stop this, you may need to do the same. The fact that the ride is comfortable as opposed to eye ball shaking means that the springs allow the suspension to "travel" further up into the arch when you hit a bump. The less travel and the stiffer the sptings, the harder the ride. Apart from the rubbing how are you finding the ride and handling?Kevin
colourconceptvr6 0
For the first week with the suspension, the handling was great. But after it set in, i have to go round corners at walking pace now or the tyres just grind off the car :-( I'll get it sorted eventually though *-) Cheers

I've got a gmax suspension kit and it has lowered my car at least 40-45 mm... possibly slightly more. Really looks the business. Even though the kit is advertised as dropping the vr6 35mm this is just a guide and it can be a fair bit more than this. I only have the standard multispoke 15" bbs wheels which I personally think suit the car. The gap between tyre and arch is very minimal (about one or two finger's worth) even with 15"s. So with 17"s I would say rolling is def going to be required.

spindat45 0
my back g-max struts burst within 8 months' date='any one else had this problem[/quote']My NSR shock had a slight leak when I fitted it. I had to leave it on for a couple of weeks before I had the chance to change it but since then everything has been fine and I'm really pleased with all aspects of the set-up. G-Max were pretty good about it and sent a replacement out as soon as I rung them, which arrived the next day. They are guaranteed for 3 years which does give you some piece of mind. That reminds me, I must send the faulty one back

gav_113 0
ive got G-max shocks and springs bought them second hand for £70. im running 17" with 215 40 17's. i think the ride height is perfect, any lower and i would be ripping my bumper off! it did rub the back slighty so ive removed about 3-4mm from the lip. the fronts seem fine apart from i think the passenger side fouls on the arch liner on full lock when going over a bump? i find the shocks a little soft for my liking, i seem to get quite abit of body roll on corners. but im thinking of getting strut braces and uprating antiroll bars.
