Guest BertRaccoon
Hi all,I have a 1995 Golf VR6. Today it failed the MOT emissions test for CO (by quite a lot max 0.3 actual 0.97 to 1.03). I usually take it to my local garage, but he doesnt seem to know where to start in trying to bring it down. The nearest garage with electronic diagnostics is a bit of a distance away but do you think it would be worth going there to see if its anything obvious?Going to get my local guy to check/change spark plugs, filters etc but have been looking around the forums to see if there are any common problems before he starts guessing! Have seen mention of O2 sensors, but wasnt sure if this was for a golf or not? Also replacing the catalytic convertor seems like a big expense if this isnt the problem as I was planning to trade-in my car in a few months. As you can probably tell, I dont know an awful lot about cars so any hints/tips/help would be much appreciated! mk3anni 0
Dead cat or fecked CO sensor would be my guess. Could put it on VAGCOM but i can't see it telling you much.
vr6turbo 27
vag com would show if the o2 sensor was knackednot the cat though
kempj1 0
I'd say O2 sensor probably knackered, but get it vag commed and it'll show you whether the other sensors are off the rails. Make sure you get the vag com bloke to write ALL the fault codes down before resetting them.
