Remap - will it yield any more power it on these mods...

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm seeing Stealth in a month and was thinking about a possible remap (which is a dastek unichip).

My golf vr6 (odb2) currently has the following modifications:

- Cat back (2.25" standard bore) stainless Milltek Exhaust system.

- Milltek high flow cat.

- Free flowing stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold.

- And soon to be fitted BMC induction kit.

I know on an ODB2 Golf VR6 a remap wont actually give a rise in power on a standard car.

Other than the initial increase in power to 200bhp I already have with the mods above, will I "gain" any more power/torque, on top of this with a remap or will it not make a lot of difference but just improve the driveability?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Matt

Don't bother with the Dastek, get Vince to do you a rechip instead, which he can now do. It's better to have the software done onboard for faster response times.

OBD2 runs at peak tune all of the time so gains will be minimal but you can do a lot with it compared to OBD1, so midrange tweaking of the fuelling, MAF and ignition tables to suit the 6 branch might yield more power and torque.

OBD2 is very good for drivability I find but if there's any flatspots, they can be smoothed off.

Thanks for your reply. Just read your post on the other forum thanks. Is it possible for a rechip / remap to therefore manipulate the torque levels at different revs - in other words could Stealth increase the low down torque with the remap? That's what I'd ideally want compared to top end power.

Thanks for your help. How much are Stealth's rechips? Are they the same price as the old Dasteks, and are they a chip of somekind or replacement ecu?

Yeah I've replied to that on the other forum too, you can tweak low, mid and high tables accordingly to get what you want.

I'm not sure how much his rechips are as he's doing his first one at the moment (a charged VR golf) since getting the equipment but I think £350+VAT was a figure he mentioned, best to confirm with him. It's about the same as the Dastek anyway.

The Dastek is an offboard device that intercepts the MAF signal, they're not as good, fast or flexible as a rechip imo and you can only take away timing and fuel with those, you can't add them like you can with a rechip, unless you tell the dastek there's no lambda probe, but the chip is the best option as it's faster and more scalable.
