francisjonno 2
Hi Everyone. Are golf mk3.5 convertable door mirror covers a direct replacement for normal mk3 ones? Or is it a case of replacing the whole mirror assembly?I know cult society do small mk4 'look' covers for the mk3 at about
Matt W 4
No you got to replace the whole mirror including the base and even then its not so straight forward either as its not a direct swap. You need to drill a new hole in the door where they mount and sand part of the base down to get it to fit flush. francisjonno 2
Thanks for the info 20JahreGTI.I don't fancy drilling a hole in the door so its either the cult society mirrors or a re-think.Thanks
Seademon 0
Theres an OEM Mk3.5 Japanese mirror that fits straight on apparently. I found a pic of a car on VW Vortex that had them fitted and emailed the owner to find out what mirrors they were. I havent got the email here at work but if you want it I can forward you a pic and what model of mirror they are 8)

Matt W 4
Don't get the CULT mirrors, the quality is rubbish!! I have seen so many here in Germany and spoke to one or two owners and they advised against getting them due to the quality issue's and headaches in getting them to fit properly. jezmoz 0
hmm has he got special needs?
antera309 3
Cabrio doors have no pillars, so the leading edge of the mirror baseplates have a 2-3mm return lip on them to "tidy up" the appearance when the door is open. This return lip needs to be ground off in order to fit cabrio mirrors to a Mk3 hatchback model.Once that is done, one more hole has to be drilled in the mounting face on the door (easy) and the mirror will bolt straight on. The electrical connector is exactly the same. The Mk3.5 cabrio mirrors give better visibility than the Mk3 ones and look way nicer. A very worthwhile mod if you can find some. dubloke 4
i have part numbers of the bits needed for jap spec small mirrors, both sides, if anyone wants them. however, i do point out, they are not a vw stock item, do need importing, and are reasonably expensive to boot! antera309 3
So cabrio ones might work out cheaper. Designa Dubs have a machine shop next door that can do the required mods to the baseplates and they're very reasonably priced.
