andyt 0
Looking at a 97 Highline 5 door tonight and the current owner says that the rear windows aren't working. Is this a common problem? He said that he never uses them so has never bothered getting them fixed. Would both regulators have died or could it be something simpler/cheaper?Any quick advice would be good as I'm meant to go and look in an hours time.Andy

antera309 3
Yes, it is a common problem.First, check that the "child lockout" switch for the rear windows (the button between the rear window switches on the dash) is pushed IN and re-test.If it still doesn't work, stick your key in the driver's side lock (with the door closed), turn it to the "unlock" position and hold it there. You should see that all your windows wind down fine after 2-3 seconds. Turn the key to the "lock" position and hold, and all the windows should wind back up.This is a good way to eliminate the motors/mechanisms as the cause of your problem. If all the windows work when you do this, then it's a wiring problem. The wires inside the sleeves that go between the body and the doors often break, or lose their insulation and start earthing out. You need to pull back the sleeves and inspect the wiring - on all four doors, not just the ones having the problem.
