Total closure - question(s)

My Vento has remote central locking with, I believe, total closure. When I lock the car with the key and hold the key in the lock position, all the windows close.

However, when I lock the car with the remote the results are, er, inconsistent. If I just press and release the "lock" button, the car locks, but any open windows stay open. If I press and hold the "lock" button, sometimes the windows close. Other times I have the press, release, then press again and hold. And very occasionally I have to repeat the operation all over again.

Can anyone tell me exactly how it should be done? My owner's manual sheds no light on the subject, appearing to suggest that it can only be done via the key.

press and hold to close windows and sunroof,that`s it,if sometimes your having to press and release a good few times maybe the battery in the fob is on the road out?

The manual won't tell you much as the alarm isn't standard. The knackered battery answer sounds likely though.

A friend of mine whose an auto electrician fixed what sounds like a similar problem on my car - it was just that the timing of the closure needed to be adjusted or something like that - he played around with it and changed some settings and its fine now - does both windows and the sunroof fine.
