BigSi 0
I couldn't find any tyres made in that size so went for 205/45/16 which seems to be the norm on mk3 Gols on 16s.I got T1 Rs on mine. Got them from Selectra (in Macclesfield) were about
Eat this 2
how about 215/40/16 205/45/16 lengthens the gearing to much for my liking
BigSi 0
I was going to go for 215/40/16 when I first got my 16" alloys as that is the size listed on the fuel cover (lists the tyre pressure for that size tyre and the normal 205/50/15s).But after getting advise the norm seemed to be 205/45/16 so I went for that. Eat this 2
what advice did u get mate i wanna keep the rollin radius as close to 195/50/15 as poss and 205/45/16 is just too big a diffrence il notice the lack of acceleration and itl do my nut in hehe
dubloke 4
tbh, 205/45/16 is the closest tyre you will get to maintain the gearing from the standard 205/50/15 tyre! its only reading 70.59 @ 70mph using those tyres! any of the otheres mentioned are much more of a difference! MrBen 0
I'm running 205/40/16 at the moment, but the ride is pretty nasty, and I'll switch to 205/45/16 when I change them (the tyres came with the wheels). 215/40/16 was the stock mk3 tyre for 16's but there's really not much difference in rolling radius from them to a 205/45/16 which are generally cheaper!I've had 215/40/16, 205/50/15 and 205/40/16 on the VR and can't say I've noticed a difference in acceleration - it's not as if it's a big change in radius tbh! Eat this 2
205/45/16 is 2.1% higher rr than 195/50/15 which will be noticable to me 205/40/16 would be great as its actually 1% less rr and 215/40/16 is .5% more rr which isnt noticable imo
dubloke 4
well 205/45/16 is only .59 mph over at 70mph and you aint gonna feel the difference on the road from that. the 195's your using are actually under reading on the speedo by a bigger margin than the 205's. 195's are not standard rr fitment anyway and are generally only used as they come out much cheaper than the proper 205 sized tyres!
