Ford latest one-off “Ole Yeller” Mustang pays homage to the famous North American P-51D Mustang, which served as the official pace and safety plane during Air Races.
Based on the Shelby GT350 Mustang, the special edition honors two aviation greats, the highly decorated fighter pilot, test pilot, and air show performer, Bob Hoover, which is one of the greatest pilots ever to have lived and the iconic and historic P-51D Mustang fighter plane. The car was built to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association’s youth education programs, including Young Eagles. The one-off aviation-inspired Ford “Ole Yeller” will be donated and sold via auction at the Gathering of Eagles charity event, which will be the ninth straight year Ford has donated a car, including last year’s Apollo Edition through 2008’s AV8R.

Bred from the Shelby GT350, it features a striking yellow exterior finish, “Ole Yeller” accents and badging, unique carbon fiber components and mirrors projecting images of the aircraft, a big rear wing as well as neon green lighting. The interior comes outfitted specially designed Recaro seats, floor mats with unique logos, sill plates and aviation inspired gauges.
Underneath the bonnet, remains the same high-performance naturally-aspirated 5.2-Liter Ti-VCT V8 engine with Flat Plane Crank that delivers 526 hp and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque.
The unique Ford “Ole Yeller” Mustang goes up for auction at the Gathering of Eagles charity event on July 28. The special cars have raised $3 million for EAA youth education programs.
