VR6OC News Bot 30 Posted June 1, 2016 Report Share Posted June 1, 2016 Subaru Tecnica International (STI) wins SP3T Class (class for turbo-charged cars with an engine of 2.0 liters or less) in the 2016 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race, held in Germany from May 26 to 29. Carlo van Dam (Netherlands), Marcel Lasée (Germany), Tim Schrick (Germany) and Hideki Yamauchi (Japan) drove the All-Wheel Drive Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge 2016, a race car based on the mass production WRX STI. After the team started in second place, following qualifying, the heavy rain has transformed the ‘green hell’ into a waterslide and several drivers crashed out. The problems also had and the WRX STI driver Carlo Van Dam, which slipped off the course, but thankfully he managed to avoid colliding with a stranded car and quickly returned on the track. So, after just 50 minutes and four laps, the race was red flagged for almost 2 hours. After the restart, the WRX STI team with sophisticated teamwork took over the lead and after completed 121 laps (approximately 3070 km) in 24 hours, the No. 106 machine wins in the SP3T class for the second consecutive year.
