AxlFoley 5
I have a VR6 golf that has a bit of a hydration problem, I cant seem to keep the water in the engine. there are no signs of leeks, if I run it stationary, there is no evidence of water loss, but it needs a top up after a few days of driving. I have swapped the thermostat housing and oil cooler, but this hasn't helped, there is no mayo in on the oil cap. Any ideas? on another note, recently the dash wont show the outside air temp, could this be connected ? Thanks Mark Bealieboy
Bealieboy 1,625
Outside air temp sensor is located at the lower left plastic in the front bumper, if you didn't know, I should think that will have zero to do with your water loss though. The sensor is most likely faulty. Have you felt the front carpets for damp? Sounds like it might be heater matrix?! MJ Vr6
AxlFoley 5
carpets are dry as a chip! that's what I thought at first too.
Bealieboy 1,625
Losing any from the oil cooler or possibly the rad cap given up?
AxlFoley 5
could be the rad cap, oil cooler is new and water tight. I think the rad cap has to be worth swapping for a new one.
Bealieboy 1,625
Leaked water will show as a sort of white residue, have a check on or near your res bottle and check your hoses and rad too for stains or dampness.
AxlFoley 5
there is nothing obvious there, although there is some water marks near the expansion tank, but I have put this down to a water pipe blowing a wile back, I think a full engine bay clean and de-grease is in order, that should help spot any new leeks. MJ Vr6 79
Check pipe that connects to Expansion tank and follow. As BealieBoy stated, change the Cap!!! Bealieboy
