jamesw6810 80
Guys, just developed this evening, a grinding noise thats constant with the rotation of the wheels, goes away when i accelerate or feather the pedal, decellarate and it grinds......also a heavy clonking and engine movement when i say feather on and off the pedal. Same in all gears. Pulls fine, no issues elsewhere but just this noise has appeared, quite a loud grinding if you like?I do have a split cv gaitor on the offside and a dodgy abs sensor on rear nearside.....any experiences? cheers Edited March 19, 2014 by jamesw6810
Lukey. 381
That would be the cv wouldn't it
jamesw6810 80
I would say so yeah, but no other symptoms before today, as in it literally just started. Just wanting to make sure any other issues werent likely. Edited March 19, 2014 by jamesw6810
Bealieboy 1,625
I thought cv joints clicked. With your engine movement, sounded like an engine mount to me? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bealieboy 1,625
The grinding being bottom pulley against body. Hope it's not that but worth checking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reaperx 181
If you full lock the car and creep forward should hear a grinding/clickin noise coming from the wheel. Then your cv joint has gone. If the boot is split it will have gone dry and possibly got dust and crap in wich is not good. Not too bad to change the cv itself but its a lot easier just to replace the shaft.
jamesw6810 80
Ill just replace both, cheap enough anyway, the cv boot is split and when i tidied my arches up i probably jet washed the crap and grease out of it. With the clonking definatly feels like a mount.
Reaperx 181
Get yourself in the bay have a look at the mount for any wear. Also try and physically move the engine see if there is any play.
Reaperx 181
It could just be the shaft jumping about as its turning if its work and not sat correctly they can feel horrible. I have driven a few that feel like a wheel is going to fall off or engine is about to drop out.
Bealieboy 1,625
Same as that reaper, drive along at 59mph nicely, go to 60mph and all he'll lets loose! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jamesw6810 80
cheers fellas
Reaperx 181
Might also be worth checking your wheel bearing. Are you hearing a wining noise at all getting louder when building up speed.
jamesw6810 80
Nope, noise only as I said. Cv joint will be the issue, just wanted to make sure no other major issue, gearbox etc
