PeteVRT 22
Only a quick one, my brother has a 2002 S3 which he is getting a brake upgrade for the front, so I'm getting his old brakes for my Mk3 Golf, what do I need to fit? I will have the discs, calipers and carriers. Will they go straight on or do I need adaptors
craggsy 91
Straight on but will need 6 mm of spacers between hub and carriers.May need new hoses depending on year of your car
Lukey. 381
If your front hoses are banjo fit you won't need to change them, if they are screw on yours is early and you'll need some late vr6 front hoses
PeteVRT 22
It is an early car, fairly sure the brake flexi is screw in. I'm more worried about the spacers. is there a company who does the spacers? or adaptors?
andymk312v 15
My understanding it is a spacer between the caliper carrier and the hub, could be made with 6mm flat bar. Then longer bolts.Do the carriers bolt up to a 280mm setup too? Mines an early car.
PeteVRT 22
It would need to be measured and fabricated accurately, or would cause bad in-balance, mine is an early 280mm setup. I'm just wondering if somebody already sells the adaptors to save messing about
Lukey. 381
It hardly matters that much, you could just use some spacer washers with longer bolts
andymk312v 15
Its not an adapter its just a spacer. Just measure hole centres and drill. So 312mm carriers bolt to a 280mm hub?
PeteVRT 22
Ok, thanks for that guys. Think I will have to look better when I get the brakes, I don't like the idea of using washers, then finding 6mm spacer plate? Might have a look in B&Q tomorrow, are the bolts M12? andymk312v 15
You will want high tensile bolts, unsure if they are a standard pitch though.Have a look at aluminium on ebay its pretty cheap.
PeteVRT 22
Thanks Andy, just had a look, a lot cheaper than I was expecting. I'm sure the hubs will be the same on all VR6. While I'm at it can anybody recommend an upgrade for the standard VR6 rear brakes? I.e. off another VW/Audi Edited January 12, 2014 by PeteVRT
