slack timing chain after 3rd rotation by hand

Recommended Posts

Morning folks

I have just done my chains (upper and lower) but on my 3rd rotation by hand theres slack in the upper cam chain, anyone else had this when doing theirs??

I read a thread about one person on here having some but they said they solved the problem but didnt explain how,

they said they had fitted a new tensioner and as its supplied by oil pressure and the engine was out and had no oil pressure thats why he had slack.

All my timing marks are correct and have used the terrible plastic plate to hold the cams (buy the metal one its got to be better, esp when torquing the cam sprockets)

non of my valves are hitting as it turns over freely just the chain sags abit on about the thrid rotation and wondered if it should be doing this

any thoughts anyone

I've done 3 sets of chains mate and there should be no slack atall between the cams. Make sure both the cam locking slots are bang on as if they are out by even 1mm the chain wont go on properly. Once both of them are exactly straight put the chain on one sprocket then you might need to move the other one slightly to get the chain into the teeth then turn it back and that should be it mate
