15 DEGREEZ 7
Right guys heres the story! As some may know im doing an engine rebuild on my VR engine. I have plans to supercharge but im abit worried if i bore it out to a bigger capacity, will it weaken and then possibly kill the engine , alot of people have been saying 2.9 is the safer option but not sure if its just hear say!?. opinions as always are welcomed!! RsvRob 6
Depends on the limits of the block. The machine shop should have all the specs for tolerances regarding minimum thickness for cylinder walls. I don't particularly know the answer. But I would think that as they already do a 2.9. Then boring it out to accommodate larger pistons there by making it a 3.0. This wouldn't be a massive difference in piston size to accommodate 0.1-0.2 increase!!! UnitedMotorsport 55
Factory 2.8 is 81mm bore - 2792ccFactory 2.9 is 82mm bore - 2861cc 83mm bore will give 2931cc (2.9)84mm bore will give 3002cc The bore size alone on these engines makes ~no difference to output on these engines. Have the block bored to the next size up (82mm damage permitting)
