acf8181 0
ok, cam cover gaskets aren't very pricey even from vw. make sure you get the correct one as theres two (one for plastic cam cover, one for metal).the top chain cover doesn't have a gasket...you have to use instant gasket stuff. i use vauxhall stuff (dunno the technical nale but if you ask for 'green instant gasket stuff, as used between head and cam housing on old 8v engines' they'll show you it)...its renowned in the trade for being the best apparantely, and costs £3 or so. silverline 0
cheers for that. theres a differing of opinions i removed the plug lead rails and coil pack etc and showed it to a mechanic he thinks its all coming from the cam cover not the top chain cover. i ll remove the chain cover any way as i want to inspect the tensioners just in case.got some red silicone sealant at work called RTV, thats brilliant stuff i ll use that when putting it back together.[ Edited Sat Apr 16 2005, 05:40PM ]
acf8181 0
yeah, any instant gasket is fine as long as it aint too thick or it coudl block the oil lines.
