Roof rack - rails

I got a mk3 GTi and VR6 - am trying to fit a roof rack to my GTi but Halfords say they dont make/sell one.

Surely you can get them for the mk3 - they say they are only available for the mk 3 estate?

can anyone help?

I got a Thule roof rack for my MK3. One of the best things i've ever bought. The bars fit across the car and a rack fits on top.

Is it easy to fit? Cost?And what model Thule product was it

Need to get one asap due to expanding family and dont wanna sell me trusted Golf for an estate )

I have had it for years so can't remember exactly what model but think it is standard bars that fit the mk3 golf and I purchased the rack with it as a seperate item. think I paid about £150. They are very easy to fit.

Brought a 2nd hand thule on ebay, trying to find a good box to go on top but cant work out whether I want a box or bag similar to the Pic.

Is the bag watertight and what is the capacity and make. Quite like the look of it

also - surelt the bag isnt as secure as a box - it can be broken in to easier?

I have used it in the rain, it is a really thick canvas, no leaks as yet. I wrap clothes & stuff in carriers though as a precaution. I don't know the capacity but it fits loads of stuff, It's great because it moulds to the shape of stuff inside and you can pull it about a bit to get odd shapes in. It has double straps on each corner to tie to the roof bars, the zip has a flap to keep out water and I use a mini padlock to fasten the zipper together if I need to leave the car anywhere.

If people are gonna break into stuff they will get into anything anyway.
