HamiltonGL 0
Ive done a bit of digging on this but cant seem to get a definitive answer from what ive been reading. Basically, i know there is minimal if any gain from these mods HP power wise, they more aid acceleration and torque. My initial query was can both be ran ok together? Or which is preferable? Ive heard stories of both being lightened can play with the engines harmony as to say and can cause issues. My VR6 lump was due to be rebuilt before i did my conversion but due to losing job and a flailing 1.6 lump, i had to take a chance n the donor engine until after xmas. The engine is now coming out sooner than hoped as a sniff test showed a head leak. With this, the chains rattling ever so slightly(enough to play on my mind 24/7) and my thermostat housing and radiator leaking coolant.I will be rebuilding my engine over the next week or month dependant if i can get it done this week(xmas coming up means no chance) and looking at options for mods while its out.Current engine based mods are: Piper 270 Fast Road cams: http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams/www/product.php?pid=VR6BP270HPorted and polished headPorted throttle inlet TSR 6-2-1 manifold with decat and jetex 2.5" system.Pipercross Viper induction(sealed and ran from front of car)Sachs Heavy Duty Clutch(will be going in on rebuild, cheap transmech temporary went in 2 weeks ago as thrust bearing had gone and part of the clutch housing had shot a rivet of a tension bar.)Unsure on mapping as yet, previous owner of engine was unsure. Was no reciept or graphing with the service history etc etc. Going to be tested and mapped after rebuild. Here's some current and planned standings on the engine.Work being done(so far):Full all round gasket replacement with slim and geniune triple layer metal gasket (10.1 to 10.5.1 compression gain)Full Timing kit replacementFull thermostat system replacement.Later planned/possible same time as above:Samco Hose KitNew HT leads(KV85's) and plugs.Thats it for now... Now the query.Planned flywheel will be a standard wheel lightened by a friend and is estimated to around 4.5-6.5KG dependant on how he can work it(currently looking for a specific guide as he is a highly skilled toolmaker and wants precise dimensions for the lightening)Pulley kit will be the Neuspeed one or ARZ in Germany have a full aluminium kit on their site(claiming 2whp gain lol). The options I am looking at are lightened flywheel and/or full lightweight pulley kit. If one or the other is more advantagious than the other then I will go that route. both are ok together then that will happen but i want to check on the full dynamics of both mods before doing them. Can anyone shed any light on the above please so i can get cracking! Thanks
FishWick 21
Standard flywheel weight is 9kgs, near as dammit, so halving it to 4.5Kg is a good number to aim for. I don't know if you can take that much weight out of a standard wheel though.Bear in mind you will only notice the effects of the flywheel and pulleys in the 1st couple of gears.Having been there, personally I wouldn't waste your money.
