some shocking news...literally

Recommended Posts

Last night i refitted the intake elbow and put in my port polished ob2 throttle body as well.

All that went fairly well but while leaning over the top of the engine while it was running i got the most almighty wallop from something electrical

(i do electronics im use to a shock but this hurt!!)

on further inspection im guessing on of my HT leads must be exposed although i cant see any damage to the casing.

any ideas....or feel free to laugh at me getting nearly dropped by my car! :P

Could it be the coil pack?

On my car, you could see the spark jumping from the coil pack casing to one of the bolts used to mount it. It was only by chance that I was under the bonnet at night, which meant I could see the spark. That would give you a fair old shock, and it's a fairly common issue I believe.

lol I once did a leaf check on my own, pulling each lead off and putting a spark plug in, holding the lead so plug was touching manifold and reaching round to crank the car over.

All was going well till number 6, which was a bit of a stretch, I never gave it a thought but as I was reaching round tand looking to see for a spark, my neck was touching the bonnet.. needless to say i got shocked, but earthed out on my neck, so you imagine that jolt in your neck as well as your hand haha..

I haven't done it on my own since that! haha

Haha not a car i know but the worst one i got was when i was messing with a disposable camera, trying to make a light out of it for looking in awkward dark places. Anyway when i took ot apart i forgot to discharge the capacitor in the flash, put my little finger across the output, now i've lost the feeling in the nerve ending!

those camera flash caps are evil!

you can use them to make your own Tazer or whatever they are called

I work with High power Discharge lamps so i have had some really scary moments

4k Discharge searchlite Lamp starter puts out 8-12KV at 28 amps :o:O

Had one of these arcing to the chassis on a site where the wiring was bodged

Just glad no one touched it !!!
