Hi guys,

Im currently rebuilding my head, just had new guides and seals pressed in, and now im going about lapping the new valves in. My question is, should the new valves sit this high up in the seats? or would it have to be regrinded?

also, two valves in particular, an inlet and an exhaust, are really hard to push in, and need real force to pull out, any ideas on what i can do for this?

Cheers guys :)

Now then Dave ive been doing a lot of research recently about skimmed heads etc and ive found countless people saying f you have your head skimmed you need to get your valves reground otherwise they sit proud!

I think this may be your problem dude.

Im taking mine to be skimmed tomorrow.

Ive also read that you have to skim the same amount off the top cam chain cover(lower piece) toherwise it interferes with the lower cover.

Just thought id mention it.

Yeah i guess thats whats happened, they sit far too high and just dont look right. Where are you going for your skim then? I ran a straightedge down my head earlier and its flat as a pancake, apart from the ill sitting valves of course haha.

Hmm iv never heard of skimming the cam cover before, interesting though, but a skim is only what a thousandth of an inch? Not sure if it would effect it that much, surely the gasket would take the extra bit? If that makes sense!

Im going to the same place you did mate as its just round the corner.

I will be asking them how much they have taken off for my records but cam cover problem shouldnt bother me as i will be using a head spacer.

I know its not a lot but i thought i would tell you.

When i go today im going to ask them if they can fit me larger valve seats if i supply them.

Ah ok, yeah they'll do. Good job and i thought quite reasonable too. Yeah its definitely worth thinking about, maybe just putting some rtv / copper spray on the gasket to make up for any differences? I believe i asked them when i did mine and i think they said no, i think it was them anyway.

Any thoughts on the jammed valves?? This is really annoying me!

Edit: just rang up northern road engineering, they said theyll regrind the seats and lap them in for 60, a lot better thrn i thought it would be!
