allsmiles 0
hi folks, ive been toying with the idea of buying an evo as a bit of a toy which can ferry the family about on nice occasions but with the likelyhood of it getting stolen(everyone i know who has had one has either been attempted or stolen) has put me off buying one for definate and i may throw a bit of money on my mk3now this has left me thinking, the vr6 engine in my mk3 is around 115k, and after a friends vr6 chain failing him(i think around 200k) and been told by the same friend about getting the chain changed on mine is a very expensive procedure it has got me looking at the 1.8 20v turbo engines on ebay with plenty available and a reasonable price. the help i need is which engine to go for, from what ive seen the agu engines are half the price of the bam ones, for the amount of power im after im looking somewhere in the region of 250bhp, would i be able to get the agu up to this power without major work? or would i be better off with the bam engine?many thanx, and sorry if this has been asked loads of times before
craggsy 91
Get the BAM it's easier in the long run. I think to get an AGU near that power is a lot more work. Club GTI is the forum you need to be honest
michael5556 247
Get the bam all day long. It's the 225 engine so a good remap and you will be on the 250 mark. They have stronger internals too, conrods, pistons and pins etc. I think the crank may be stronger too.

RBPE 198
AGU is large port head, BAM small port. You'll need to change to a ko4 turbo from it's original ko3 (or ko3s on the 180hp engines), I think the exhaust manifold is a bit different and a few odds and sods, injectors and remap. Far and away easier to just use a 210/225hp set up with the ko4 turbo as standard and remap it for 250-260hp.EDIT: KO3S will get you about 10bhp more than ko3(AGU) generally if you use the same parts - remap, decent fmic, exhaust etc you'd be looking at about 200-220hp with those engines before having to fit a ko4
bungy 2
Put a mk4 R32 engine in it instead.
