legvw 0
Might be the fuel pump relay. Have you got a spark when cranking?
LEMBOT 0
Not checked that yet my spark plug socket wouldn't fit! If there's no spark when I check could it be ecu issues?
legvw 0
Not ecu, more likely fuel pump relay.
russj249 2
Not ecu' date=' more likely fuel pump relay.[/quote']How about ECU switch relay? That operates before the fuel pump relay. And if its OBD1 they are a mechanical type relay rather than the later type electronic relays.Basically check out relays 167 for the fuel pump, and 109 for the management. Get the fuse box down and turn ignition on and try to feel if they click.Just a though, has it got an aftermarket immobiliser or just standard?
LEMBOT 0
Cheers I'll try that so if they click they're working? as far as I'm aware the car hasn't got an immobiliser.
russj249 2
If you can hear them click, and feel them click, its a good indication, but they can still click and be faulty. Have a go and let us know of the results, also test to see if you have spart too as said above.
LEMBOT 0
Right then swapped the relay#18 to the fuel relay and it fired up first go, drove it round the block then it died when I got back home. Checked the fuses and the fuel pump fuse had blown soooooo replaced the relay again and it fired up then died after idling for a minute or so.It keeps blowing the fuse any idea's whats causing it? russj249 2
Could be a wire to the fuel pump shorting out somewhere, or the fuel pump itself shorting out. Take up the boot carpet, and remove the blanking plate with 3 screws in. That will give access to the top of the fuel pump sender. Have a quick look for any damaged wires going through the hole, and any damage to the plug.It way be worth checking if you have continuety down the pump wires, if you have any wires connected to ground other than the earth wire, you have a wire problem somewhere.
