Nordschleife Birthday Weekend- 56k no way!

Recommended Posts

So I picked up the Golf VR6 on Tuesday evening and headed down to Dover to meet some friends for a long weekend at the Nurburgring for my 25th birthday on Monday. The boys brought an interesting variety of machinery...

The VR

Tom's mk1 MR2 1.6, still posted the quickest lap time of the weekend at 10m 30s dead. Not bad!

That's not my mum... It's Jake's remapped Scenic, can't remember the bhp but around 300lb/ft apparently. On coilies and OZ Superturismos (I think).

Harry's Sierra, 2.9 Granada Cosworth engine and Sierra Cosworth gearbox, suspension and related running gear. Somewhere around the sunny side of 200bhp he reckons. It's a bit of a monster.

Group shot outside the info centre, a nice girl from behind the counter risked her job to take a photo of us all stood next to our cars here. I'll post it when I get it from Lewis...

It was a kickass trip and I'd highly recommend you make the effort if you're considering it. The VR did me proud and even returned 17.5mpg when I was ragging it around the 'Ring. A few choice mods and maintenance and it should be much better for our next trip in the spring.

All comments and questions welcome :)

Its an interesting climb up the tower at the castle. I hit my heads and grazed my arm in that.

A fair few of us have been over and all rate it very highly.

LAst went in september and if its open you really should do a session on the GP track.

Will be back over there next year on the way to Worthsee

Yeah the climb up the castle gets a little tight and claustrophobic eh?! We didn't have the time or money to do the GP track as well this time but it'll be on the agenda for the next trip. We're planning another trip for mid-April time and hopefully with a few more people next time.

Won't be long before they announce the opening times for the track and the gp track for next year :) April is good if your lucky with the weather

Its a looooong drive. Approx 1000 miles there then ya gotta come back lol.

The R32 is set up perfectly for this as its great cruising at 80mph

i dont mind driving long distances, depends if i get some decent seats as 6ft tall isnt the best in 21 year old mk2 seats lol

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I usually get the ferry from newcastle to Amsterdam. Total mileage is no more than 600 miles.
