vr6_super 0
Just wondering what other peoples experiences are. Oil temp normally sits around the 90 mark, if I'm boosting goes up to 104 ish and engine temp gauge sits on the middle all day long. However when I open the bonnet there is an almighty heat coming off the engine and every time I shut down after a drive there is still the cooling system is it, still whirring around the water for about 10 minutes. This normal? If not then any ideas? I havent changed the coolant, even if it is coolant, could just be water tbh, but kept on topping up to correct level.
rodney 17
Firstly Boosting???? Are you charged or Turbo'd?In answer to your question yes it does run warm as it is a compact unt.. I had a charged system and it sat at 80-90 all day long. In theory all is good up to 110.. BUT I am not a fan of that so the oil cooler was part of my install and I sat at a nice 90 to 100 even when pushing on for the day in summer....by the sounds of it a good oil and coolant change couldnt hurt. That way you have a good start point to monitor from...Yes it does run after to cool everything down and differet peoples run for slightly different times... Check your fans are running and in good repair as you may/may not have an issue...
vr6_super 0
When I say boosting I just mean driving fast lol. Will sound newbie ish but how do you check that the fan is working other than it coming on when you are stationary to cool the engine?

vr6_super 0
lol, will do, on another note, how long does an aftermarket cone filter last? when under the boonet i seen it is basically covered and doubtful if there is actually any or very little air getting through.the previous owner just had a cone sitting on top of the old air box, thinking i may replace it and just get an induction kit, hearing good things about the ram air contraption. rodney 17
in the premium section there are discussions on the modifications and peoples experiences of pwer v noise eetc..Only comment I will make is make sure it is cold fed rather than just sat in the bay otherwise the hot engine bay removes any benefits (to a point)Again on how long.... well K&N state 60k miles so pop on line and check the ones you shortlist for your preferences.. and of course join up and get the discounts from premium membership... the fee is worth the 15% on your insurance alone... Ben Seabrook 4
yes they do run hot as standard mate but as Rod says a good oil change etc is worth doing so you know and a low temp thermostat is also worth it but otherwise nothing to worry about and handy to toast your sandwiches on after a sprited drive
