ianmac666 0
Hi everyone, been a while since I've been on here mainly cos some idiot pulled across me while i was doing nearly 40mph and wrecked my black golf vr...nice. I've recently replaced it with a mulberry vr6 highline that ive had a few issues with (rad fan control module mainly) latest issue is that the air con clutch is not engaging. If i direct feed it from the battery it engages. The fuse is fine and i've got continuity to the fan control module and i've tried the one that was previously on the car.Anyone got any suggestions please? Switch seems to be working ok and still nada. It's a p plate obd2 aaa with factory fitted air con. Thanks for looking
Vw_owner 1
lol maybe a stupid question but is the temp in the car set to cold?
Gazbarber1982 3
If there's no gas or not enough pressure in the gas, it won't engage.
legvw 0
Vagcom might bring up an error.
ianmac666 0
thanks for the replies, i've got a code reader but not vagcom and that doesn't help, it was gassed just before we realised it's not engaging and yes i've tried it on each number in the car and set it to cold. Having read through my Bentley manual it seems to go through loads of switches and controls before getting to the AC pump. I've checked it's got a good earth, I don't want to separately wire it up as i guess there is something wrong with the system hence it's not functioning properly
ianmac666 0
have potentially got the wrong fan control module on the car does anyone know the part number for a '96 vr6 highline please?
ianmac666 0
looks like I've managed to sort out the problem, wasn't the fan control module, it turns out it was the ac thermal switch which is the 4 pin brown switch in the water housing on the front rhs of the block which was obviously reading wrong so was engaging the radiator fans onto speed 3 and not allowing the a/c clutch to engage due to thinking the water temp was too high. Thanks for any help, hope this helps someone else (i tested it by unplugging said switch and the rad fans operated as they should)
