radiator fans not working after ignition is switched off

Recommended Posts

When the engine is hot and the radiator fans come on, they should stay on after the engine is switched off.

Mine don't, the fans stop when the ignition is turned off. If I put the ignition back on, the fans will come back on and cool the motor as needed but this should happen with the ignition turned off too.

I asked a VW specialist to take a look and see if they could fix the problem. They say there is nothing wrong with the fans or the control unit.

They suggest that it is the aftermarket alarm that is wired incorrectly and is cutting the power after I switch off the ignition. The alarm is a Laserline.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or have any suggestions?

See if anyone has a fan control module with the same part number as yours on ebay. There around a tenner. The numbers will need to be the same though, apart from the last letter, thats just a revision thing. Other than that, try sitting in your car with the key out of the ignition and arm your alarm. Once it's armed, stick your key in and see if you can get the ignition lights to come on. When they fit an alarm, normally they just cut the wire that the ignition connects to in the start position so when the alarm is armed there is no connection, but if you have disabled the alarm then there is a connection.

I would give these a try first.
