pfennell 0 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Share Posted April 19, 2011 after stripping my engine and gearbox to fit new raceware head bolts and sort the timing out,,,and find out why its not running right..as i flipped the head around 8 bent valves were starring at my as u can imagine i was crawling the walls but at least its not a 24valve i thought...head now stripped off to vw tommoz.......... pfennell 0 Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Share Posted April 21, 2011 picked up new valves today well had to buy a complete head...need help!! ive read the timing chain thread and still to unsure where the slack goes on the chainbefore the tensioner bolt is fitted...ive left the slack on the tensioner bolt side is this right or does it go on the other side... legvw 0 Posted April 21, 2011 Report Share Posted April 21, 2011 Should be tight on the none tensioned side, the guide side, and slack on the tensoiner side, until the tensioner is screwed into take up the slack.I'd allways wind the engine over by hand after to re-check the timing. pfennell 0 Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Share Posted April 21, 2011 cheers mate ,,,thought it was i think i was reading the thread wrong . just to check things over with the timing..ive lined up the fly wheel to its mark and got the intermediate shaft lined up using the line on the block behind the open circle with the tooth on the cams are on with the cutouts facing upwards and a plate in the other side to hold them...i have no timing mark on the crank pully which is a pain and after refitting the gbox ive lined up the mark in the hole in the top of the gbox i know this is not the prefered mark to go off but it lines up nice......
