rsweeney 40 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Share Posted April 19, 2011 sorry guys but i cant find help anywhere so trying here, just replacing the rear wheel bearings on my renault 5.wheel bearing has been pressed into the brake drum but the brake drum wont slide back onto the axle. i have used a small sledge hammer and wood so farthe hub nut fits on so i guess i could tighten it to press the drum further on but wouild this damage the bearings as it presses against them ? Vw_owner 1 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Share Posted April 19, 2011 if there sealed cartridge bearings? then they wont just slide on, idealy you will need to press the center section of the bearing on over the axle,how did the old one come off? done mine on my corrado, but there roller taper bearings and they just slide on the stub axle. legvw 0 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Share Posted April 19, 2011 Have you released the brake shoes? There should be an adjuster that will need to be slackened off so that the drum slides over easily.You might have damaged the shoes by 'beating' it on! Link to post Share on other sites
